State Rep. Velis’ weekly update

Happy New Year, Westfield! I hope that you all had a Merry Christmas and a Happy Chanukah, and that you had some time off this week to spend with family and friends.

This past week marks the last full week of the 189th General Court and my first full term in office. I’m looking forward to my next term beginning on January 4th, and I’m thankful to all of you for allowing me to serve again. As this term is drawing to a close, my office was in high gear to make sure our legislation made it through to Governor Baker’s desk. I’m happy to report that on Thursday, House Bill 1642 was finally enacted. Once signed by Gov. Baker, the courthouse on Elm Street will officially be named after one of Westfield’s most respected natives (more details to come once it’s signed into law)!

The start of a new session means that my office will kick into an even higher gear to get all of our bills filed by January 20th. I have some big bills in mind and will keep you updated as they are filed, but as always, I want to hear from you, too. Please feel free to reach out to my office at 413-572-3920 or email me at [email protected] with any questions, concerns or legislation ideas so that we can work to make sure your voice is heard on Beacon Hill.

Have a happy and safe New Years Eve, and I’ll see you all next year!
