A member of the school district’s technology sub-committee, Petschke informed the school committee that the sub-committee is looking to create a five-year plan to help improve technology for all three schools in the district.

“I’d like us to start thinking about technology differently, “ said Petschke.

One of the ways Petschke wants the committee to look at technology differently is by putting technology items in the operating portion of the budget instead of the capital improvements. In the past, the school committee has always had technology items in the capital improvement category in the budget.

The town is not allowed to lease items detailed within the capital improvement category, but are allowed to lease if something is in the operating portion. Leasing certain items can give the district more options and room financially.

Steven Presnal, the Business Manager for the school district, noted that Petschke’s suggestion is something that the committee should continue to discuss.

“It’s something we need to explore further,” said Presnal.

The school committee then agreed that the topic is something that they should discuss more extensively in the near future.
