Storage tank okay; DPW candidates chosen

SOUTHWICK – Southwick-Tolland-Granville Regional School District Business Manager Steven Presnal told the Board of Selectmen this week that an underground storage tank on school property is in good shape.
The board received questions about the tank and Presnal assured them all was in order.
“We have it inspected every three years and it was just inspected by Advanced Tank Testing,” Presnal said of the plastic and fiberglass tank. “It received a clean bill of health.”
The single tank stores both diesel and regular gasoline and is located near the bus parking lot outside Woodland Elementary School. The fuel is used for school department vehicles.
Presnal said the tank was tested for leaks and is “pretty tight” with no leaks detected.
The tank was installed in 1992 and has been regularly inspected and maintained. Presnal said the school has a contract with Tighe & Bond to assess the tank periodically.
Selectmen Chairman Russell Fox asked Presnal to give an update to relieve any concerns and added that the town wants to continue its partnership with the schools. He then asked Presnal about the expected life of the tank.
“I asked about that when it was inspected and was told we were secure into the future,” said Presnal.

Also during Monday night’s Board of Selectmen meeting, the board unanimously agreed to invite four candidates for a second interview for the Department of Public Works director position.
The board chose Stephen Been, Randal Brown, Timothy Durand, and Michael Suprenant for a second round of interviews.
The interviews will take place Sept. 30 at 6 p.m. at Town Hall.
“We are very fortunate that we had very good candidates with impressive resumes,” Fox said.
