SOUTHWICK – DPW Director Randy Brown announced on Wednesday that the construction for the Veterans Street project will begin shortly. Caracas Construction, who is the contractor, is expected to begin the work once the weather gets a little warmer and the ground is dry.

The project is focused on installing a new drainage system and water line, along with widening the road. Brown noted that there are some major issues with the street because there is an inability to have two vehicles travel on that road safely. The current water line on Veteran Street is undersized at one and one-half inches to two inches and the new water line will be six inches. According to Brown, the upgrade of a six-inch water line will be a major improvement for a street that has 18 lots.

In October, the Select Board signed a contract for Caracas Construction to be the contractor as they were the lowest bidder at $327,380.  The project is being completely funded through a Community Development Block Grant.
