WESTFIELD – Catherine and Richard Sypek have lived in the city for 25 years and recently opened their business, Sypek Law and Insurance, on Court Street.
Cathy Sypek sold her financial consulting business of more than 35 years to work with her husband. Rich Sypek left his former employer of over 30 years. Both had a desire to work in their own community.
“The goal is to work while having the opportunity to do more charitable and volunteer work with our church and other civic organizations in Westfield,” said Cathy Sypek.
Rich Sypek is a Police Commissioner in Westfield which he enjoys, and they both volunteer as much as possible and look forward to doing more now that they are so close to home. The are parishioners of St. Mary’s Parish.
Rich Sypek specializes in real estate transactions, estate planning — will, health care proxy, power of attorney – zoning and business development.
Cathy Sypek, a former professional plan consultant, will maintain her life insurance and long-term care insurance license and focus on those two areas of insurance only.

Opening a new business during a pandemic can be risky, but Sypek Law and Insurance is open at 60 Court St. and available for whatever the comfort level of clients, including in-person meetings.
“We practice all possible safety measures and are comfortable meeting in our office,” said Cathy Sypek. “We are also comfortable using Zoom for those clients who would prefer to remain at home.”
The Sypeks said COVID has not been a factor in their business.
“Covid has not had a significant impact. We transitioned from our former positions and opened this firm on Oct. 1, 2020,” said Cathy Sypek. “We welcome the fact that we have been very busy.”
The Sypeks, who have been married 37 years, are very excited to work together for their clients.
“Rich and I bring years of experience with integrity to the areas of law and insurance,” she said. “Our clients trust us and know they are getting the best product at the best price.”
Richard Sypek has been practicing law since 1983 and Cathy Sypek has been a Licensed Life and Long-Term Care Insurance Agent since 1985.
