WESTFIELD/SOUTHWICK – For many people, the thrill of the hunt and finding a hidden treasure make tag sales almost a summer sport.
Because of COVID-19, tag sales have been put on hold in Westfield and Southwick where permits are required to host a tag sale.
Westfield city Clerk Karen M. Fanion said the city is not issuing permits at this time but would revisit the issue July 1.
The lack of tag sales does have some effect on the city’s bottom line. Permits are $10 for three consecutive days and are limited to two tag sales per address per year. Obtaining one, when they are allowed, is simple.
“The process is, apply online or when the public is allowed back in the building obtain it in the City Clerk’s office. Once issued, the permit must be displayed during the tag sale,” said Fanion.
Typically, Westfield issues 450 tag sale permits annually.
In Southwick, a tag sale permit is $5 per day and sales could resume during an upcoming reopening phase.
“The Board of Health secretary believes they will [resume] when retail stores can open,” said Southwick Select Board Administrative Assistant Cindy Pendleton.
