Three-vehicle accident shuts down portion of Southampton Road Thursday

WESTFIELD–A three-vehicle accident involving a tractor-trailer closed down a portion of Southampton Road for almost two hours Thursday evening.

Westfield Police reported that a three-vehicle accident occurred in the 400-block area of Southampton Road Thursday evening. The accident, first reported at 4:09 p.m., resulted in injuries of vehicle occupants, as well as the road being closed from Airport Road to Apremont Way.

According to Westfield Police Capt. Michael McCabe, the road was closed from about 4:25 p.m. until 6:05 p.m. The accident involved a 2017 Subaru Crosstrax, a 2007 Toyota Prius and a tractor-trailer. A citation was also issued.

The accident resulted in two people also being injured and transported to Baystate Noble Hospital, both by Westfield Fire ambulance and personnel in two ambulances. There was also a third person that the Westfield Fire Department reportedly acquired a patient refusal from, according to the police log.

According to the report, there were large amounts of fluids from the vehicles in the roadway.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation was requested to assist in the cleaning of the roadway, particularly with a street sweeper, according to the police log, but were unavailable.

Westfield Department of Public Works responded and cleaned the debris and fluids.
