SOUTHWICK – Brush is being accepted at TJ Bark Mulch for free for town residents with a Transfer Station sticker.
The Transfer Station has not been able to accept brush since late March because of the COVID-19 outbreak. To help residents, TJ Bark Mulch is accepting brush at no cost at its facility at 25 Sam West Road.
Bulky items requiring a separate permit – often called white goods – will still not be accepted at the Transfer Station until further notice.
Selectman Joseph Deedy said this week he hopes that will change soon and all normal business will return to the Transfer Station.
“After two weeks we will look at this and see if we can bring brush back to the Transfer Station,” said Deedy. “For white goods, we are looking at starting that again, too.”
Bulky items that are currently not being accepted are televisions and monitors, mattresses and box springs, washers, dryers and stoves, refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners and dehumidifiers, propane tanks, car tires, fire extinguishers and brush.
According to the Department of Public Works, the restrictions were enacted because these items require direct handling by staff.
Hours of operation at TJ Bark Mulch are Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
