Hi Westfield, and my friends in Ward 3. As summer winds down the election season is starts up. Remember the Primary is the most important election, for if you do not make it in the Primary you are not on the Nov. ballot. And, so few voting in the Primary it is easier to win and be on the Nov. ballot. Also, every election is an opportunity to advocate and compete for your social and economic issues. That is the American Way and what gets me baffled about “the government” comments. Ours is such an easy system to work, I do not understand why people don’t make the effort to be a responsible citizen and exercise our citizen authority. And, it can be fun.
Last week I went to Sheriff Nick Cocchi’s annual event. Food, drinks, sweets, music, and a lot of elected people you could informally talk with, as well as people who work campaigns, and of course everyday Americans. I had a picture taken with the Lt. Governor Polito; she got along great with the folks, chatting, getting selfies; real down to earth. I talked with Cong. Neal, as I said was on old friend. Sec. of State Bill Galvin, State Treasurer Goldberg, a number of State Reps. and Senators, mayors and town and city reps.; and my old friend Mayor Sarno; all of whom I, and everyone else, had a chance for some informal talk, and questions. Our own Ray Rivera was there and I had the chance to being up my erkedness over no Fiber on Arnold St. is planned. He is a good guy helping out with the heavy lifting in setting things up for the dinner. These event are like old fashioned family get togethers. And, there is a raffle. Informal and friendly…a chance to meet the people we hire to manage our public interests.

OK, from the fun stuff to the baffling stuff. Last week, also there was a march in D.C. by those seeking Civil Rights for white people. If my memory serves me right we have had 200+ years of white domination of our government, business world etc. Where were these guys? Sorry, I do understand that there is a need for the pursuit of Rights for white people. Especially low income, working laborers. BUT, those who violated our Rights and exploited us were other White people. The South has had a Class based society with the “Well Born” derived from the old plantation Master Class who ran things for their interests. Remember a lot of the South did have mandatory public education until the ‘60’s, and still do not like spending money on it, after all what do hicks and trailer trash need an education for? When you hear the reports the South still has a lot of low income, and are the states with the highest rates of health problems. Yes low taxes and few safe guards for their people. They rely on Federal tax dollars to provide their social services. While all the time with an overwhelming number of military installations, and the government funded functions that someone benefits from, but not the general population unless it is the jobs that the Fed hires and pays for.

It was far more broad based; any one my age knows about those people on the other side of the tracks, or the wrong side of town. But, we were able to get a job, and afford an education, and buy a house somewhere nice, send our kids to college, etc. But, that was the North, we enabled people to move out and move up. But, those down there, and in other regions where a few dominate and control things that did not happen, and still to some extent still doesn’t. Their old saying of: “we take care of our own” should have attached “as long as it does not cost anything.” The only take care of our own are families for there are few public services, except those provided by the Fed. Yes some are evolving out of that, and you see it where White and Black work together to make things better. This is another of their fears, a new way of doing things, for which they are not prepared for or are so conditioned that they not understand it. As such, that they cannot be wrong, reject the 21st cent.

OK, enough for now; I know…keep it brief! Your former Ward 3 City Councilor, Brian Hoose…[email protected]
