Hello Ward 3, and all of Westfield…I would like to commend the great job that our DPW has been doing especially considering the weather, understaffed, and under equipped. When budget time comes, we really need to push those we hired to rep us, to look at the needs for upgrades in staffing and resources to continue to the great, and often tax saving work they have done.

Next, re: our Federal Government… To state the obvious that it seems is ignored: The Wall…doesn’t the President know that this is a $14+ Billion boondoggle that we will pay for. I hate to break to them, the wealth that the American the drug habit has given Narco-terrorists has enabled them to have “planes, ships, and even a submarine or 2.” Gee, how hard will it be for them to move on to plan B? Or, are we going to build a wall along our coast lines too? Thus, we do not stop the flow of drugs or dangerous persons, just those escaping the brutality in their countries funded by our drug users. And, wouldn’t $14 Billion be more useful to help people here? Grandiose schemes sound very exciting but only when real reality strikes do we see them for what they are worth not much to us.

As we continue to hear the most contra American comments about the non-WASP populations, I gave you an important quote to think about: Rev. Niemöller: First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—Because I was not a Socialist. Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Trade Unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.  Who is next: Jews, Catholics, as in the past?

The reason for this quote is that this has happened before, not a speculation or fake news, but fact that happened. I cannot imagine MY America, the Good Guys in the world, rounding up 100’s of thousands of people to be detained and deported. And, that has happened with Japanese Americans during WWII, and Native Americans as the Cherokee. This not Soviet Russia, or National Socialist Germany, and we are not ISIS… or at least not to be as they. We were a beacon to the world for Social Justice, and our Humanitarianism. Have we suffered so much for being the good guys? And, oh, by the way this a major reason why: America is, was, and always would be GREAT. American leadership inspired people around the world, and we prospered by their then preference for all things American.

OK, last part…Merit Based Immigration…Really are our social biases blinding us to the obvious? Well educated, English speaking immigrants would be in line for the better paying jobs! Americans do not want the lower paying jobs. And, with budget cuts, and changes in legislation it will be harder for our youth to get the education to compete. Oh I get it…we’ll create our own cheap labor, and leave the good paying jobs to Non-Americans. Enough ranting for now, but just think about it. I never want to tell you what to believe but to provide some real facts and considerations to factor into you thinking…don’t let yourself be the victim of a good con job….Your former Ward 3 City Councilor and Community Advocate….Brian Hoose,   [email protected]
