Hello Ward 3, and all of Westfield…From where I left off last time: more fake news out of Congress that adds to my comment that while you may save a dollar in taxes the other costs to us will may be at least $2.00. American oil production is near an all-time high says the Wall St. Journal, yet oil prices go up. Add in the cost increases from import taxes that are making solar panels and washing machines more expensive. Europe and China are doing a lot with alternative energy; Welcome to 1918 instead of 2017?

This is not the time to become left behind, remember the Laws of Nature: those who do not adapt to changes, become extinct. Another cost to us: now that the big banks are back in control, the mortgage rates are going up and the prices for homes also. Or, is this just another partner in wealth profiting from a manipulation of the public? Oh, yes, those business ties that the president was supposed to have ended, they are up too. Health care is going up. But it is OK, with all those one time bonuses, but not pay increase. Spend the tax returns, and bonuses wisely, you may need them.

It was drain the swamp, so as to fill the exclusive country club pools?   And, while on this rant: he is the most expensive president, to the tax payers. The cost to the Fed for security, and the cost to the localities where he golfs, are incredible. And, he is for the common man?   Another factoid put out this past week, is that 1% of the world’s population now controls 80% of the world’s wealth…bless our future generations, like even the next one, they will need it. With the world population at over 7 Billion, and by midcentury 9 billion; how will they live? Divide 8 billion, by 20%, that is what they will have to work with, and live on. And, with tech replacing human power, the costs of living, as here, are going up. Hoarding or should I say monopolizing wealth reminds me of the warnings Scrooge got from Christmas Future in the Christmas Carole. Not promising.  And, the newest Sec. of Health and Human Services, is a former Pharm, exec. And, do pay attention to the budget talks: cuts to education, students, environment, med research etc. that will impact the states thus local taxes. You want it, you pay for it, if not don’t and be left behind.

OK, the President is to give his State of the Union speech…BUT, the president is famous for: what I say today, I will revise tomorrow, and reverse the next day. His spokespeople need a special award for their ability to rationalize his rapid fire changes. It is kind of like 1984 that facts can be changed daily to rationalize the changes. I do not understand how one of the better educated counties, where many are so pro-business, yet don’t grasp the obvious, or are they just so gullible? If I can figure this out, why can’t those much more savvy than I?Anyway, more local interest and issues: Education. In reading the papers this Sunday a goodly amount of space was given to early childhood education. Years ago, when there was a major legislative effort at Education Reform, I had the opportunity to work with a few legislators who were developing it. My ideas were a little advanced for what was wanted. But, as our world has undergone some fundamental changes and the next new business economy is, and is going to have to be so very different…for those in the education decision making field, a shared thought. Children are most curious and their imagination most alive in elementary school. I would suggest a more peripatetic early education. Where they go to science, and art museums, visit colleges where new science and tech work is being done, zoos, and aquariums…etc. We have loads within reasonable distance. There they can explore ideas, be inspired as to learn the things that they need to learn to transform their imaginations into careers. In the media we are hearing of high school age students inventing 21st century goods and services. Think of the savings, in many ways, to take children out of a bad neighborhood, find new potential, leave the discouragement and inspire them to find greater purpose. And, to have most of our youth look to what is the promise of this Next New Generation in the Next New Human Epoch (NNHE). For this NNHE will be one of creativity and imagination made real. Unless of course those in control block their access. (Sorry, had to say that.) OK, enough for now; your thoughts…. your former Ward 3 City Councilor, and Community Advocate….Brian Hoose,   [email protected]
