Thursday, June 14 is Flag Day.
I am writing to once again extend the invitation for your readers to grab their American flags and stand out with them on Thursday, June 14, 2018, from 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM in the park on the south side between the two Great River Bridges in Westfield.
Every year Flag Day is observed to honor our flag and the nation it represents. For many years, I have organized a pro-flag, pro-America, non-political, non-partisan, grassroots, patriotic standout on Flag Day in Westfield. Wear red, white, and blue!
This event is open to everyone: individuals or groups, children or adults. I’d love to see scouts and veterans, candidates and politicians, citizens and lovers of freedom and democracy, Americans of all shapes and sizes come to celebrate Flag Day and show their pride in their flag and their country. Even if you don’t live in Westfield, all are welcome!
It’s even more important this year that you turn out because, in fact, I cannot be there personally. The State Senate is meeting in a full formal session in Boston and I have to be at the State House to vote. But my staff will be standing out. Join them.
If anyone has an old or tattered American flag they would like to retire in a respectful way, they can bring them to me that afternoon. As usual, we will be collecting flags that are no longer serviceable and will be passing them on to a local veterans group for an appropriate retirement ceremony.
The standout will take place rain or shine. Spread the word!
God Bless America!
Thank you,
Senator Don Humason
