To the Editor: The Westfield Soup Kitchen

On September 27, 2018, an article written by Westfield News correspondent, Lori Szepelak, was featured on the front page of the newspaper. The story was about the Westfield Soup Kitchen and how it was necessary to raise funds and gather food in order to continue operations. The volunteer Board of the non-profit had decided to mail a card to every household in Westfield to request a donation to increase our operating funds. The mailing was successful, and we are extremely grateful for the generous response from our residents, and businesses, as well. We are fortunate to live in a caring community, and want to express a public “Thank You” to all. Several Food Drives were also held after the article was published. The Community Church of Westfield, PeoplesBank (sic), and The Westfield Police Department Cadet Program held public Food Drives in which the community, again, gave us overwhelming support. There is a lot of planning and effort involved with operating a non-profit without any paid employees, and the Soup Kitchen is fortunate to have a group of kitchen supervisors, and a network of religious organizations, social groups and neighborhood friends, dedicated to preparing and serving meals to all, every Sunday through Friday, each week of the year. Thank you, to each and every one of you who keeps our mission alive.

Ann T. Kousch

President, Board of Directors
