Truxton (Todd) Deane

WESTFIELD – Todd Deane, 87, of Westfield passed away on Saturday, September 29, 2012. Todd died peacefully with his family by his side.
Todd was a true patriot who proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He was part of the Strategic Air Command (SAS) and the Tactical Air Command (TAC). He enlisted in 1943 during World War II, and then went on to serve in the Korean War. Todd continued his dedication to our country by serving two tours of duty in Vietnam. After 31 years of military duty, he retired in 1974 as an E9 Chief Master Sergeant. Todd humbly accepted many citations, decorations, and awards, throughout his service to The United States of America. From 1974-1996 he worked for the United States Post Office Bulk Mail Center in Springfield, MA. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), Air Force Sergeant’s Association (AFSA), Disabled Veteran’s Association (DAV) and Non Commissioned Officers Association (NCOA). He was a Freemason in the International Order of Masons.
Todd was the ultimate optimist; Always seeing the glass half full, not half empty. He had a strong constitution that carried him through anything life tossed his way. Mind over matter was clearly his life philosophy. Todd had a kind heart, often lending a helping hand to friends, neighbors, and strangers. Up until his recent illness, he was a very active man. He enjoyed his visits and conversations with his “crew” of friends at Dunkin Donuts.
Todd would want to thank his friends, that filled his days with friendship, after the loss of his wife Barbara of fifty four years. He will be sadly missed by his daughter, Gail Coutu and her husband David of Guilford, Vermont; his daughter, Denise Connelly, her husband Timothy, and grandson Ryan Connelly of Longmeadow. He will also be missed by his grandchildren, Alyssa, Megan, Austin and Mathew Deane of Casper, Wyoming. He leaves behind relatives in Massachusetts, New York, Las Vegas, Seattle and Scotland. He was predeceased by his wife Barbara Deane in 2006 and his son, Todd Allen Deane of Casper, Wyoming in 2008.
A Remembrance of Life Service will be held October 5th, 2:00 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Cemetery, in Agawam MA. Family and friends are welcome to attend.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in Todd’s name to: The Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati OH 45250-0301. The American Cancer Society, 31 Capital Drive, West Springfield, MA 01089.
