WESTFIELD—Mayor Brian Sullivan and the Westfield Fire Department are attempting to reach out to different portions of the community in the coming weeks.
Both Sullivan and Eric Bishop, deputy chief of the Westfield Fire Department, will be hosting separate events aimed to reach different portions of the community but both with residents in mind. Sullivan will be hosting the “Mayor’s Coffee Hour” later than usual on Thursday, March 23, and dubbing it “After Hours with Mayor Sullivan.” Meanwhile, the Westfield Council on Aging is hosting Bishop for an educational luncheon related to fire safety for the Retire the Fire Campaign on Thursday, March 9.
For the educational luncheon with Bishop, that will be at the Westfield Senior Center from noon to 1:30 p.m., and will cost $3 per lunch ticket, with tickets already on sale and limited.
“Several people have lost their lives in Massachusetts in fires already, so we will talk about flame spread related to modern furnishings and fire safety, in general,” Bishop said of his event.
In addition, Bishop is expected to provide a variety of fire prevention and safety tips, as well as discuss the need for working smoke detectors and what increases the risk of damaging fires in a home.
The menu, according to the city’s website, will include meatloaf, mashed potatoes, garlic green beans, rolls and peanut butter mousse cake for dessert.
For the After Hours with Mayor Sullivan, the event is free to the public and will be at Clemenza’s Restaurant at 91 Elm St., from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Residents are urged to attend so that they can become more informed and also ask Sullivan questions, as well as get a chance to voice any concerns you may have. Also, according to Amber Danahey, community outreach coordinator, the timing of the event is to give residents a chance to attend who may not normally be able to due to the coffee hours traditionally happening in the morning which may conflict with some work schedules.
