WESTFIELD – Police officers throughout the country have faced violence this year. As recent as last week, two officers were killed in Iowa as well as two other officers being shot in New York.
Two local women in Western Massachusetts now want to get their respective communities to come together and support their police departments.
Audrey Herbert and Katie Kopczynski are making it their goal to bring care packages to every officer for both the Southwick and Westfield Police Departments as part of what they call the “Adopt A Cop” program.
“It’s a thank you for all that they do,” said Herbert.
In order to fulfill their plan, Herbert and Kopczynski are asking for people in both communities to give a $20 donation.
The donations will be going towards the care packages which would include a coffee mug, soap, lip balm, hot chocolate, and candy.
This idea all started since both women are individual consultants for Perfectly Posh, a pampering products company. Being naturally based, the soap and the lip balm are Perfectly Posh products.
According to Herbert, she has 13 donations so far and is aiming for 30. There are 17 full-time officers, including the command staff, and 11 reserve officers on the Southwick Police Department.
“I was trying to make two extra in case I left anybody out,” said Herbert.
Kopczynski currently has 17 donations and is also looking for a total of 30 since there are 30 officers in the Westfield Police Department.
In Westfield, Kopczynski noted that Dunkin Donuts donated six coffee mugs to Kopczynski. The Good Table diner donated two $10 gift certificates and the gift certificates will randomly go in two of the coffee mugs.
Although they have the items in place to put in the care packages, the two women are open to suggestions.
“If there’s something else somebody wants to donate, we can certainly incorporate it,” said Kopczynski.
Donations to either police department will be accepted through Nov. 20 and the care packages are expected to be delivered to the officers on Dec. 20.
The two ladies that live in these communities are encouraging people to make the $20 donation to show their support for the men in blue.
“I just feel like they don’t hesitate to help us in any situation,” said Herbert. “As first responders, they go so beyond that.”
