Westfield

Update from State Rep. Velis

Good morning Westfield! I hope everyone is staying cool out there this weekend. I am heading into Boston today as we are in session this afternoon. But first, here is a quick update on this week.

This was a busy week around the city of Westfield! On Thursday representatives from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation paid a visit to the Westfield Senior Center. They spent a few hours signing people up for E-ZPass and handing out transponders. This event was extremely well attended with over 500 people showing up to get their transponders. Thanks to the wonderful folks over at the Senior Center the whole thing went very smoothly!

It was great to see so many of you out enjoying the warm weather and music on Thursday night at the concert on the green. What a turn out! That event was a great example of why I love the city of Westfield. So many friendly faces and great people out enjoying their city.

Otherwise, it’s been a relatively quiet week. We did not have formal session on our usual week day due to the Republican National Convention. Some of my colleagues attended the convention so session will be held today instead. Similarly, we will be in session next weekend rather than our usual week day to accommodate those traveling to the Democratic National Convention.

As the end of the legislative session draws near we have a lot of ground left to cover. Today we are slated to take another look at the budget. A few weeks back, Governor Baker reviewed the budget and made his vetoes. It is now back in the legislature for consideration and any potential overrides to those vetoes.

That’s all for this week Westfield! Enjoy the rest of your weekend. As always, please feel free to contact me with any questions, comments, or concerns at [email protected] or my district office phone 413-472-392.
