Update from Westfield Gas & Electric

In the past few articles, I have explained what Whip City Fiber (WCF) is. Today, I’d like to provide why WCF is such a valuable resource for those living and working in this community.

WCF has been bringing high-speed internet to Westfield for over a year and a half now. Our customers are realizing the benefits this new service. As has always been the case with our electric and natural gas customers, we are committed to providing value; a reliable product at a competitive price with great service. WG+E/WCF employees are first-rate when it comes to meeting the needs of our gas, electric or telecommunications customers.  They are extremely talented, committed, and dedicated.

Residential Whip City Fiber customers regularly report paying their current cable provider $200 a month or more for a bundle package that includes television, phone, and internet. That’s a substantial step up from “introductory” pricing which hides activation fees, equipment charges, and the requirement of a two-year contract in the fine print. At the end of the initial contract term, a customer’s bill escalates significantly. Is this a reasonable way to treat a customer?

At a price of $69.95 a month, Whip City Fiber provides internet service at speeds that are up to twenty times that of other providers. Standard installation, including a high-speed wireless router, is free and there is no contract required. The possibilities of what to do with such a service are endless. With every passing day, the world is becoming exponentially more technologically advanced. The ability to grow with streaming, gaming, security, “smart home,” and other offerings is guaranteed with such high-speed access.

For those who would like to keep a home phone and retain their same number,WCF now offers premier phone service at a base price $12.95 a month. This service includes unlimited local and long-distance including calls to Canada and Mexico, call blocking, and many other options. There are even affordable international options. You can start to see that there are many options to replace that cable bundle package at a fraction of the cost.

It is important to note that Whip City Fiber is high-speed internet service and does not offer traditional cable television programming. However, you can still enjoy your favorite programs. We have a very talented Whip City Tech Team available to offer free one-on-one consultations to assist you in selecting the additional products or services you may want so you can truly “cut the cord”. They will help you select the right streaming device or no-contract subscription service which will provide your favorite entertainment. You subscribe to a service like Playstation Vue, Sling or Netflix, among others, for the select channels you watch. We have a solution for just about any channel you might want, from NESN to TCM to Nat Geo to HGTV to Hallmark. For local programming, with the one-time purchase of an HD antenna can provide all the local channels over the air for free. Modern antennas are much smaller in size than older versions and can be placed either inside or outside the home. For a limited time, we’ll even install it for free.

When you total up the monthly costs of WCF, premier phone service, and a subscription to a streaming service, many of our residential customers are saving over $100 a month compared to their previous cable bill. Over a year, that can add up to savings of $1200 a year or more. You only pay for the services you choose to use. There are no “bundles” and no contracts.

This month we’re pleased to announce that our 2-year build-out is going great and we’re ready to install in some new areas. We are currently in the southeast portion of the city, building in the Little River, Pontoosic, and Shaker Road areas east of Shaker Farms Country Club.If your address is in this area, sign up at whipcityfiber.com by July 15 for a FREE month of service. Do you live in an area which is already connected to Whip City Fiber but you’ve never signed up? It’s not too late. For a limited time, we are offering new customers in these areas a $35 welcome credit. Our installation schedule for the next year is available on our website.
