WESTFIELD – Walter John Burek, 83, of Westfield died Sunday, August 12, 2012 in a local nursing home. Born in Westfield, he attended Westfield schools and was an US Army Veteran of WWII and the Korean War. Walter was employed at Advance Manufacturing and Sterling Radiator for several years retiring in 1994. Walter was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Polish National Catholic Church.
He was predeceased by his wife Carol (Menard) Burek in 1979. He is survived by two sons; Michael of Westfield, Richard and his wife Pamela of North Granby, CT; a daughter, Beverly Farrell and her husband Jim of Westfield; two sisters, Catherine Janis and Frances Pennington, both of Westfield. Walter also leaves two grandchildren; Michelle Kavula and Daniel Kavula; three great-grandchildren, Kristi Kavula, Walter “TJ” Arndt, Kassie Kavula and a great-great grandchild, Matteo Kavula.
His funeral will be held on Thursday, August 16th at 9:00 a.m. from the Firtion-Adams Funeral Service,76 Broad Street, Westfield followed by a funeral mass in St. Joseph’s Polish National Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Westfield. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
