WESTFIELD—The city’s fire department may soon be adding another firefighter-paramedic to their staff.
The Westfield Fire Commission met yesterday and voted to make a conditional offer of employment to paramedic Cody Chatterton to make him a firefighter-paramedic for the city. Chatterton was not at the meeting but according to Westfield Fire Commissioner Albert Masciadrelli, Chatterton had accepted the offer.
Chatterton was one of five interviewees for the department that were chosen from the Massachusetts Civil Service Examination. Initially, two vacancies were available on the department, which were filled by Chatterton’s fellow interviewes Zachary D. Kareta and Matthew B. Potter, but Masciadrelli said that Westfield Fire Chief Mary Regan added another vacancy following Kareta and Potter being hired. This latest vacancy is tentatively going to Chatterton.
Chatterton must now pass a medical screening, hearing test, psychological screening and the Massachusetts Physical Abilities Test to finish the conditions of employment. Then, if successful in passing those, he must finish the Massachusetts Fire Academy within one year of employment, with extensions allowed based on scheduling, according to Masciadrelli.
