The team coaches provided the following capsules of recent Westfield Little League baseball and softball games.
4/14/2018 Baseball – Majors
Sons of Erin 8, Air Compressor Engineering 3
Brrr….it may have been cold on the field for opening day, but the Sons of Erin were warming up for their season under the bright lights at Paper Mill field. They clutched their first victory with determination and persistence, under less than perfect weather conditions, with a score of 8-3 over Air Compressor Engineering. On the mound for Sons were Ted Dunn and Michael Lachtara. Their focus and control were evident as they pitched for 6 K’s each. Offensively, the Sons ran hard to capture stolen bases and put themselves in scoring position. Lead RBI hitters were Nate Blackack and Lachtara. Crossing the plate for the Sons were Patrick Moore, Nate Pudlo, Sam Slattery, Blackack and Dunn. Lead hitters included Pudlo and Lachtara, each slamming double baggers, and Blackack with two singles. All in all, the Sons played hard for their first win of the season.

7B’s lost in the bottom of the last inning. Scoring the only two runs for 7B’s were Jakob Crepeau and Darren Welch. Leading the way with hits for 7B’s were Jake Boisseau and Bryce Golec. 7B’s pitchers, Eli Burrell, Aidan Murphy and Darren Welch, combine for 9 strikeouts.

Fenway Westfield 9, 7B’s 7
In a game shortened by the lack of daylight, Fenway Westfield came back to defeat 7B’s in the last inning. Aiden Casey cleared the bases with a 3-run inside-the-park home run to win it for Fenway. Zach Cook, Aiden Casey and Caden Hansen combined to hold a tough 7B’s team to 7 runs. Tom Knapik, Andrew Galzynski and Aiden Casey all did well behind the plate. Owen Cutler, Jack Benda (2x), Tom Knapik (3x), Jack Knapik, Andrew Galzynski, Lucas Franklin, Zach Trudeau, Caden Hansen, Shannon King and Owen Ritchie all were able to get on base. A number of them crossed the plate, contributing to the win.

Green Meadow Lumber 17, Fenway Westfield 7
On a bitter cold night, a red-hot hitting Fenway Westfield team came out of the box early, scoring 5 runs in the first inning, but couldn’t hold on for the win. A tough Green Meadow Team clawed its way back behind exceptional pitching from Jake Barnes. Jack Knapik, Zack Trudeau, Tom Knapik, Andrew Galzynski and Aiden Casey all crossed the plate in that first inning. Jack Benda at 2B and Owen Ritchie at shortstop made great defensive plays. Both plays helped keep the game close early on. Zach Cook started the game at pitcher and Zach Trudeau, Jack Knapik, and Andrew Galzynski all made their debut on the mound. Caden Hansen finished the game in a relief effort.
4/20/2018 Baseball – Majors
Slovak Club 6, Sons of Erin 2
The Sons of Erin started off their second game strong, but then struggled to keep up with the Slovak Club sluggers, and ended up being defeated by a score of 6-2. On the mound for the Sons were Mike Lachtara and Ted Dunn, recording a total of 3 K’s. The Sons of Erin shut down Slovak Club until the fifth inning when they ran into some trouble, as Slovak Club’s bats became hot. Slovak rallied in the fifth, crossing home plate six times. Offensively, the Sons showed some aggressive play, as Nate Blackack executed a perfect bunt and Nate Pudlo nailed a triple. Lachtara, with his quick hustle, stole two bases, and then stole home to bring in another run for the Sons. All in all, both teams played hard, but Slovak earned this win.

Westfield Police Association 14, 7B’s 8
7b’s lost in the last inning. The game was tied 8-8 going into the sixth inning. Jeremiah Rios, Izaya Frazier and Brady Wilder pitched for 7B’s. Leading the offense for 7B’s were Wilder, with a triple on his first at bat, and Rios, who reached base safely in all five plate appearances.

Fenway Westfield 7, Tucker’s Restaurant 6
The Fenway Westfield Green Machine got back on the winning track with a hard fought 7-6 win over a tough Tucker’s team. The Fenway bats came alive with 5 runs in the second inning after scoring 2 runs in the first inning. That was all that was needed as they held back a scrappy Tucker’s team. Jack and Tom ‘T-Bird’ Knapik crossed the plate in the first inning when Aiden Casey smashed a triple. In the big second inning, Jack Benda, Caden Hansen, Shannon King, and Zach Cook all reached base on walks, setting the table for Andrew Galzynski. Galzynski smashed a bases-clearing triple. T Bird Knapik next slammed another triple to plate Galzynski. The Fenway effort was supported by a few great plays in the field. Most notable was a relay throw from Caden Hansen at first to Knapik, who tagged out the Tucker’s runner at home, preserving the Fenway lead. To end the game, Zack Trudeau snared a hot shot back to the mound and made the throw to Knapik at first to end the inning and the game. Zack Cook once again had a strong effort on the mound, starting the game and going 2 innings. He was relieved by Jack Knapik and Zack Trudeau. Trudeau came in with the bases loaded and slammed the door shut with a great relief effort. Knapik and Galzynski both played well behind the plate.

Sean Aponte had a great season start on the mound with 8 strikeouts! Devlin Boss closed the game with 3 strikeouts. Great pitching carried the team for the whole week.

Westfield Police Association 11, Fenway Westfield 10
The Fenway Westfield team lost a close game to a very good Police squad, 11-10. Aiden Casey, Jack Knapik, Zach Trudeau, and rookie pitcher Owen Cutler put in great efforts on the mound.
After going down 1-2-3 in the top of the first inning, the Fenway bats came alive in the 2nd inning. Zach Trudeau and Owen Ritchie got on with walks and Jack Benda knocked Zach Trudeau in with a tough grounder to first. That set the stage for Owen Cutler, who took one for the team by getting on base via hit by the pitch. Caden Hansen the singled to score both runs.
In the 3rd, Fenway went down 1-2-3 again and Police was up 11-3. Fenway got one back in the top of the 4th when Tom Knapik drew a walk and was advanced to 3rd by a single from Aiden Casey. Next batter, Owen Ritchie cracked a single to score Knapik.
Fenway held Police to no runs in the bottom of the fourth. Score now 11-4. The big 5th inning started with two outs. Jack Knapik got Fenway going when he drew a walk. Zach Cook stroked a single followed by a hit-by-pitch by Darren Galzynski. This set the stage for a two-out grand slam by Tom Knapik, who launched a shot to deep left center field. Not ready to stop scoring, Aiden Casey followed with a walk and was brought home when Zach Trudeau got aboard with a single. Fenway had a 5-run 5th.
With the score now 11-9, Owen Cutler shut down the Police bats in the bottom of the inning with a gritty relief effort, striking out 2 batters. First baseman Tom Knapik finished the inning with a stop of a hot shot to first and beat the runner to the bag.
In the top of the 6th, Owen Ritchie got Fenway going with a walk. Jack Benda walked; Owen Cutler was hit by a pitch, loading the bases. Shannon King walked in a run (Ritchie) in between two outs. Now down 1 run, with two outs, Jack Knapik slapped a hard shot to shortstop. A fine defensive play by the shortstop and a force out at second base preserved the Police win. All in all, it was a fine effort by both teams and an entertaining game. Fenway Westfield now stands at 2-2 for the season.

Sons of Erin 14, Kiwanis Club 6
After a slow start in the first inning, the Sons of Erin came back strong in the second, scoring nine runs, eventually leading to a 14-6 victory over Kiwanis Club. Solid hitting and aggressive running were evident throughout the game. Offensively, the bats heated up early. In the second inning, Lucas Morganelli laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt, tying the game at 2-2 and firing up the Sons. The team didn’t stop there. In that inning alone Tim Moran, Ted Dunn, Mike Lachtara and Tom Brown all nailed singles and Nate Pudlo smashed a double. A keen eye and good control allowed Dunn, Nate Blackack and Brian MacIntosh to reach first base on balls. Crossing the plate for the Sons were Sawyer King, Patrick Moore, Moran, Dunn, Pudlo, Lachtara, and Blackack. Lead RBI hitters included Dunn, recording 4 RBI, and Moore, recording 2 RBI. Defensively, leading off the game on the mound, Dunn’s precision and control allowed him to pitch for 6 K’s. Next up, Pudlo threw for 4 K’s, and to close out the game, Moore recorded 1 K. Notable plays on the field included Moore, at shortstop, grabbing a high fly ball in the second inning. In the third, after a long shot to the warning track, cut off shortstop Brown threw perfectly to the catcher, King, who then tagged the runner out at home plate, preventing another run. This win brings the Sons record to 2-1.

7B’s 10, Teddy Bear Pools 8
Leading the way for 7b’s in their first win was Brady Wilder with 4 hits, along with Darren Welch and Aidan Murphy, who both scored 3 times. Murphy also led the team with 3 RBI’s. 7b’s pitching efforts were combined by Bryce Golec, Aidan Murphy and Eli Burrell.
4/26/2018 Softball – 12U
Agawam (12U) 6, OMG 5
Despite being the underdog, OMG put up a valiant effort and gave Agawam all they could handle. Camille Bruno pitched four strong innings and made a great catch in left field. OMG put three on the board in the first. Singles by Lexi Sanchez, Allie Rehor and Piper Mayhew were followed by walks to Bella St. Pierre, Ava Pederson and Abby Balser and led to three runs. In the fourth inning, Rehor walked and worked her way around the bases, eventually scoring on a passed ball for the 4th OMG run. OMG also got great defense from St. Pierre who caught a wicked line drive and catcher Allie Stucenski and pitcher Sanchez, who executed a perfect flip play to nail an Agawam runner trying to score on a wild pitch. The score was tied at 4 going into the 6th when Agawam got two runs to take a 6-4 lead. In the bottom of the 6th, Rehor led off with a double and came around to score on a wild pitch. Walks to Grace Burke, Stucenski, and Pederson loaded the bases and put the tying run at third, but it was not to be as Agawam was able to get the last out. Still it was a great game and a great effort by the OMG girls.

Tucker’s Restaurant 10, Westfield Police Association 7
Strong fielding and pitching led to an 10-7 victory for Tucker’s Restaurant over the undefeated Westfield Police Association. With multiple lead changes throughout the game, Tuckers bats came alive to take the 10-7 lead in the top of the 6th inning. Jadiel Adorno speared a line drive in the bottom of the sixth to temper the rally of the Westfield Police Association. Anthony Sanchez secured the victory with a 5-out save to end the game. Tuckers is now 2-2 for the season and looking to keep the momentum going!
4/23/2018 Softball – 12U
Vivid Hair Salon 7, Agawam (12U) 5
A three-run fifth inning comeback led Vivid to their first win of the season. The inning was started by a leadoff double ripped down the third base line by rookie Nezziah Davis, who ended up on third base with heads-up base running. Ali LaPanne drove in Davis with a line drive single and Jaycalee Santos drove in LaPanne with her own line drive single. Rylie Nimchick capped the rally with a one-out single to drive in Santos. Nimchick was 3-3 on the night with a triple and 2 RBI and a solid performance defensively behind the plate. LaPanne also had a big night at the plate with a double and 3 RBI. Santos also had a big double to lead off the game, scored two runs and drove in two. Rachel Bonfitto and Phebe von Stange each scored a run. Bonfitto sealed the win with a double play on a line drive to short stop in the bottom of the sixth. Vivid pitching was a major factor in the win with Ali LaPanne pitching two innings, giving up only two earned runs with five strikeouts, and Megan Cichonski pitching four innings without allowing an earned run or a hit and striking out seven. Vivid improved to 1-1 on the season.

99 Restaurant got solid performances on the mound from Alex Miller and Ray Tierney, who each threw a scoreless inning. Zane Jasmin chipped in with a big hit and Max Gallagher made a nice play at first base.

99 Restaurant’s last inning comeback was fueled by hits from Evan Miller and Carter Mason. Jameson Cotto also smoked one down the third base line. Matthew Bedore and Angel Villanueva provided solid pitching performances for 99.

In a well-played game, 99 Restaurant was led by pitcher Carter Mason, who struck out the side in the 4th Inning on 13 pitches. Evan Miller had the team’s lone hit, while Evan Lucia-Foran and Michael Guyott contributed with solid defensive performances.

In the season opener, 99 Restaurant showed some solid defense in the 1st inning, with Jack Donnelly making an excellent play at 2nd base. Jack followed up with a line drive single to right, plating Max Gallagher. Evan Miller threw a 1-2-3 4th inning, striking out the side.

Teddy Bear Pools 16, Fenway Westfield 2
The Fenway Westfield team lost 16-2 to a tough Teddy Bear team. Zac Cook took the mound and pitched the first two innings. After yielding a run to the Bears in the first inning he settled down and shut them out in the 2nd. He recorded 4 strikeouts in 10 batters. In the bottom half of the first Fenway scored 2 quick runs when Jack Knapik and Andrew Galzynski crossed the plate. They both reached base by walks. Aiden Casey knocked both of them in when he laced a single to the outfield.
From there it was all Bears, scoring 15 runs over the last 3 innings. Though the Fenway team had some opportunities, 12 strikeouts left them unable to push anymore runs across the plate
Fenway pitchers were Zac Cook, Aiden Casey, Owen Cutler and Lucas Franklin. Lucas Franklin made his debut on the mound and picked up the Fenway team with a fine 2 innings (and 55-pitch effort). He recorded 4 strikeouts as well. Jack Knapik, Andrew Galzynski, Owen Cutler, and Owen Ritchie all reached base by walks. Lucas Franklin ripped two singles and Andrew Galzynski, legged out a double and reached base all three times he was at bat. Jack Benda had three excellent at bats again and stepped up with a fine defensive effort at 2nd and 3rd.
On the defensive side Fenway had a few bright spots, including a fantastic run down by Shannon King of a deep right field shot that kept the runner to a double. That could have easily gone for an inside-the-park home run. Zac Cooke and Jack Knapik each had good defensive plays at first to keep Fenway competitive.
Both Andrew Galzynski and Aiden Casey have done a fine job behind the plate. We are now a third of the way through the season and stand at 2-3.

Sons of Erin 11, Advance Manufacturing 8
After a long third inning, the Sons of Erin regained its lead to earn a victory over Advanced Manufacturing in a time shortened game, 11 to 8. Mike Lachtara and Nate Blackack showed off their hustle and each stole home on a passed ball, bringing in two of the six runs scored in the second inning. The bats were hot for lead hitters, Nate Pudlo, who crushed a double and a triple; Tom Brown and Patrick Moore, who each nailed a double bagger; and Ted Dunn who smashed two singles. Crossing home plate for the Sons were Moore, Brown, Pudlo, Lachtara, Blackack, Dan Methe, Sam Slattery, and Brian MacIntosh. Lead RBI hitters were Pudlo and Brown, each with 2 RBI. On the mound for the Sons of Erin were Brown, Tim Moran, and Moore, recording a total of 6 K’s. This win brings the Sons record to 3-1.
4/28/2018 Softball – 12U
OMG 11, Easthampton (12U) 10
Grace Burke went 4-for-4 with 2 doubles and Grace David delivered a tie breaking hit in the 6th inning as OMG staged a late 3-run rally to pull of a comeback upset win over Easthampton at Nonotuck Park. OMG grabbed an early 2-0 lead in the first when Ava Pedersen led off with a single and was singled home by Burke. Burke then came around to score on a single by Bella St. Pierre. OMG extended the lead to 5-0 in the 2nd when Lexi Sanchez stole home, which was followed by a 2-run double by Burke. In the third, OMG took a 7-4 lead when Allie Stucenski led off with a walk and was followed by back-to-back hit batters to Camille Bruno and Emily Frangie. Sanchez then brought home 2 runs with a single. In the 4th, OMG took a 8-7 lead when Burke doubled again and eventually scored on a fielder’s choice by David. Easthampton then came back to take a 10-8 lead as Fenway went to the 6th inning. The comeback rally began with singles by Allie Rehor and Grace Burke. Piper Mayhew then walked as Rehor stole home to cut the Easthampton lead down to 10-9. St. Pierre blasted a double to right to score Burke and tie the game. Easthampton then pulled a double play and it looked like they might get out of it without any further damage, but Grace David played the hero for OMG. She smoked a liner to left as St. Pierre raced home from second with the go ahead run. In the bottom of the inning, Rehor made a nice play at third to throw out the final out of the game at first with the tie run at third. Bruno and Mayhew also had hits for OMG in the game and Bruno, Sanchez and Burke all had to get key outs on the mound as well. It was the first win of the season for OMG.
4/30/2018 Softball – 12U
Vivid Hair Salon 18, Gateway (12U) 3
The Vivid bats were hot on a cold night at Sadie Knox. The team’s offense was led by Alejandra Strange who went 3-3, scored three runs and drove in a run. A fourth-inning rally was started with back-to-back doubles by Ali LaPanne (2-2, 3 runs scored, and an RBI) and Rylie Nimchick (2 RBI). Alex LaMountain had a triple, scored two runs, and drove in a run; Ciara (Coach CC) Toporowski had a double, score three runs and drove in a run; and Sara LaCross went 2-3, scoring two runs and driving in a run. LaCross also had a solid performance behind the plate, picking off a runner on third base to end a threat in the third inning. Rachel Bonfitto also caught a runner trying to advance with a quick reaction behind the plate. Alejandra Strange helped lead the defense, not yielding a run and striking out a batter in her debut in the pitcher’s circle as well as making a diving stop at first base to save a run from scoring in the fifth. Toporowski and LaPanne each pitched two innings without giving up an earned run; each struck out three. The win improved Vivid’s record to 2-2.
4/30/2018 Softball – 12U
OMG 20, Hadley (12U) 5
Bella St. Pierre blasted a three-run home run to help pace OMG to an easy 20-5 victory over Hadley at Hopkins Academy. OMG got off to a quick start with 3 runs in the first inning on singles by Lexi Sanchez, Allie Rehor, Piper Mayhew, and a double by Grace Burke. OMG extended the lead to 8-0 in the third inning on a 2-run single by Mayhew, and St. Pierre’s towering three-run blast to deep center. In the 4th inning, Ava Pedersen singled in a run then later stole home herself. This was later followed by a two-run single by Sanchez and a RBI single by Rehor. In the 5th, Burke walked and later stole home. A fielder’s choice by Pedersen scored another run and was followed by a RBI single by Allie Stucenski. OMG tacked on two more runs on bases-loaded walks by Nova Santiago-Scott and Sanchez to push the lead to 18-4. The last two OMG runs in the 6th inning scored when Rehor stole home and Camille Bruno walked with the bases loaded. Bruno also pitched two shutout innings for OMG. Sanchez and Mayhew each had three hits in the game. The win was the second in a row for OMG.

The bats came alive for 99 Restaurant on Monday night with eight hits, including two from Angel Villanueva. Michael Guyott and Jameson Cotto also had big hits. In the field, Jack Donnelly and Ray Tierney made nice plays. Evan Miller threw a scoreless inning.
5/2/2018 Baseball – Majors
Sons of Erin 4, Moose Lodge 0
The Sons of Erin worked as a team to shut out Moose Lodge with a score of 4-0. The focus and precision were evident on the mound as pitcher Mike Lachtara recorded 5 K’s in 2 1/3 innings and Ted Dunn pitched for 9 K’s to close out the game. Also, defensively, the Sons were hot behind the plate, as catcher Patrick Moore threw a perfect ball to shortstop, Sawyer King, in the 4th inning, to tag out a potential steal. The Sons’ bats were on fire in the 4th. First up was Nate Pudlo, who stepped up to the plate ready to hit and crushed a home run, bringing the Sons lead to 2-0. Lachtara got his chance next and smashed a triple. Lead RBI hitters were Pudlo and Nate Blackack, bringing in one run each. Crossing the plate were Moore, Pudlo, Lachtara and Tim Moran. The Sons showed the fans a great game and worked together to earn this victory.
5/3/2018 Softball – 12U
Agawam (12U) 14, OMG 13
OMG staged a furious rally, coming back from 10-1 down early to tie the game at 13 in the 5th before eventually falling to Agawam in the 6th. OMG banged out 14 hits in the game. Ava Pedersen was on base all four at bats with two singles, two walks and four runs scored. Allie Rehor had three hits including a triple, double and a single. Grace Burke had a double and two singles. Piper Mayhew had two singles and Bella St. Pierre, Allie Stucenski, and Grace David all had hits in the game for OMG as well. Stucenski also made her 12u pitching debut and was solid for three innings, allowing only 3 runs and giving her team a chance to come back and tie it. Rehor caught for the first time this season and did a great job including throwing out an Agawam runner trying to steal third. Trailing 13-8 in the 5th, Pedersen walked with the bases loaded which was followed by a 2-run double by Rehor to make it 13-11. Burke then singled in two more runs and OMG had made up a nine-run deficit. In the end Agawam would win the game in the 6th on a walk-off single, but it was still a great comeback for OMG.
55/4/2018 Softball – 12U
Vivid Hair Salon 6, Fitzgibbons CPA 5
A Ciara “CC” Toporowski line drive single in the bottom of the fifth drove in the ultimate winning run in this nail-biter of a well-played game by both teams. Vivid fought back from an early 4-0 deficit by chipping away at the lead with timely hits from Ali LaPanne and Jaycalee Santos and a big lead-off walk to Phebe von Stange that led to a run after von Stange’s smart base running. Toporowski led the way at the plate, driving in 3 runs in the game, going 2-2. Ali LaPanne also went 2-2 and scored two runs as she continues to be a menace with the bat. LaPanne also turned in a solid performance in the pitcher’s circle, allowing only 2 earned runs in three innings pitched, holding a strong Fitzgibbons offense to only two hits. Megan Cichonski closed the game, giving up one run in three innings, striking out six and stranding the tying run on third base in the sixth inning with nobody out. Rylie Nimchick and Jaycalee Santos combined for the defensive play of the game when Santos sprinted to track down an overthrow at third and threw a laser to Nimchick at the plate who then ran down the runner, diving to tag her out in front of third base. Vivid improved 3-2 on the season with the win.
5/4/2018 Baseball – Majors
Sons of Erin 6, Slovak Club 5
Aggressive play earned the Sons of Erin a hard fought win over rival Slovak Club with a final score of 6-5. It was a close game right from the start with Slovak crossing the plate twice in the first. Patrick Moore jump started the Sons’ offense and slammed a double, setting the stage for Ted Dunn and Nate Pudlo to follow with singles, scoring the first two runs for Sons. Up next was Tim Moran hitting a sacrifice ground out, putting Sons ahead 3-2. Good control on the mound from Mike Lachtara and some hustle in the field kept Slovak quiet in the next two innings. Some notable plays throughout the game included first baseman, Moore, stopping a hard grounder and beating the runner to first base for the out; third baseman, Moran, rushed in to grab a grounder and then made a perfect throw to first for the out; center fielder, Tom Brown, nabbed a long fly ball near the fence; and Sawyer King, playing second base, stopped a hard grounder and fired to first baseman, Lachtara, whose long stretch beat the runner for the out. Slovak was able to bring in another run in the 4th, tying the score, but the bats were hot for the Sons in the 5th. Lead-off batter, Lachtara, crushed a triple, reaching the right field warning track. Nate Blackack was up next with a single and an RBI bringing the Sons ahead by one. Sam Slattery then slammed a double, bringer in a run and increasing the Sons’ lead by two. The 6th inning was intense with Slovak crossing the plate two more times to tie the game at 5-5. In the last of the 6th with the game on the line and a man on base, Nate Pudlo was intentionally walked. This strategy proved to work against Slovak as Mike Lachtara came to the plate and slammed a drive to right-center field, scoring Pudlo for the win. This victory brings the Sons record to 5-1.

Hastie Fence 10, Sons of Erin 9
With a deficit of 8 runs in the first, Sons of Erin played hard to bring the score within one run by the 6th inning, but it was not enough to seal the win, as Hastie Fence came out on top by a score of 10-9. Hastie’s bats were on fire as they crossed the plate 8 times in the first. The Sons turned up the volume in the third, scoring five runs with Sam Slattery, Tom Brown and Dan Methe each nailing a single. Patrick Moore smashed a double, recording the team’s first RBI. Sons kept it going as Ted Dunn, Nate Pudlo and Tim Moran singled with Moran bringing in another RBI. The fifth inning was similar offensively with Brian MacIntosh, Moore, Dunn, and Pudlo crossing the plate. On the mound for the Sons, Tom Brown recorded 2 K’s. In relief, Tim Moran’s control was evident as he struck out five, while Dunn closed out the game with 1 K. Some notable plays in the field, included 2nd baseman Mike Lachtara who, with the bases loaded, threw a strike to catcher Nate Pudlo, saving a run. In the 4th, shortstop, Ted Dunn, snagged a grounder, tagged 2nd, and fired to Lachtara on first base for a double play. In the 5th, right fielder, Dan Methe, showed his hustle and nabbed a hard hit fly ball for the out. All in all, the Sons fought hard, but were unable to catch up to Hastie Fence.

This game ended in a tie after 8 innings. The 7b’s bats were powered by Izaya Frazier who went 4-4 with a triple, and 2 Doubles and 2 RBIs. The other RBIs for 7B’s come off the bats of Aidan Murphy, Eli Burrell, Darren Welch, Jeremiah Rios and Hannah Markel. 7b’s pitching effort was combine from Bryce Golec, Jake Boisseau, Aidan Murphy and Darren Welch
5/10/2018 Softball – 12U
Vivid Hair Salon 8, Easthampton (12U) 7
Vivid staged a late-inning comeback to earn a hard-fought win at Sadie Knox. Trailing 7-3, Vivid scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth, started by a perfectly executed safety squeeze by Alejandra Strange to score Rylie Nimchick from third and topped off with RBI singles from Rachel Bonfitto and Alex LaMountain. Bonfitto went 2-2 with two two-out RBI in addition to three solid defensive innings behind the plate. Vivid went ahead in the bottom of the fifth when Ciara Toporowski scored from second base on a ground ball to first using her speed and intelligence to capitalize on an opportunity to score. Toporowski also led another strong performance by the Vivid pitching staff with two solid innings followed by great outings from Alejandra Strange and Ali LaPanne. After LaPanne threw a 1-2-3 fifth, Megan Cichonski closed out the game with a 1-2-3 sixth, striking out the side for the save. The game featured one of the best defensive games of the season, led by Dakotalyn Phelon, Toporowski, LaMountain, and Cichonski. Vivid evened its record to 4-4.

Westfield Funeral Home 11, Chicopee (10U) 10
The young Westfield Funeral Home squad won a close game over Chicopee. The girls scored 3 runs with 2 outs in the last inning to pull out the victory. Julia Bonfitto and Caitlyn Arooth lead the pitching with two strong innings apiece and Kiley Dougherty made her first appearance on the mound this year.
The hitting was sparked by the top two hitters in the line-up, Katie Bouchard and Emma Nelson, as they each scored 3 runs. Delaney Beltrandi and Makayla Catellier drew key walks in the last inning to help pull out the victory. The team moved their record to 1-0-1 after the win.

Agawam (10U) 8, Westfield Funeral Home 5
The Westfield Funeral Home lost a closely contested game to the Agawam 1 team, 8-5. Isabella Potenza pitched 2 strong innings, allowing only 1 run behind some strong defense. She was followed by some quality pitching from Caitlyn Arooth and Julia Bonfitto.
The hitting was paced by Savanah Chapman, who crushed two balls, as well as Kiley Dougherty and Marin Monyahan, who had her hardest hit ball of the year. Leadoff hitter Julia Bonfitto scored two runs. The loss evened their record to 1-1-1 on the year.

Commercial Distributing 4, Sons of Erin 3
Despite a valiant effort, the Sons of Erin fell to Commercial Distributing with a score of 4-3. The pitching on both teams was sharp. Ted Dunn started for the Sons, with seven strikeouts in the first five innings. Defensively, the Sons made some notable plays in the field. In the 2nd inning, Nate Blackack, playing center field, fielded a line drive grounder and without hesitation threw a strike to first base, beating the runner for the out. In the 6th inning, Sam Slattery grabbed an infield fly, threw to shortstop, Ted Dunn, who then tagged second, catching the runner off base to end the threat. Offensively, Sawyer King and Lucas Morganelli laid down perfect bunts, helping to get the Sons in scoring position. Lead RBI hitter was Mike Lachtara bringing in two of the three Sons’ runs. Crossing the plate were King, with two runs and Tom Brown with one. The Sons of Erin fought hard until the end, never giving up and resulting in a great game for the fans.

OMG 9, Vivid Hair Salon 7
OMG got three good innings on the mound from Camille Bruno and Lexi Sanchez to pull a 9-7 upset over Vivid Hair Salon on a gloomy and damp night at Sadie Knox. OMG got on the board first when Allie Rehor crushed a double to center and scored on a single by Piper Mayhew. OMG got three more runs in the second when Grace David led off with a walk that was followed by singles by Grace Burke, Abbie Balser, Allie Stucenski, and Bruno. With the score tied at 4 heading into the bottom of the third, OMG took the lead for good when they exploded for 5 runs. Mayhew led off with a single. OMG hitters then showed a good batters eye as Bella St. Pierre, David, Burke, Balser, Stucenski, and Bruno each drew walks. Sanchez then cleared the bases with a triple. OMG also got great defense from Ava Pedersen who made a great catch on a line drive at shortstop. Leading 9-7 it was up to Sanchez to close the door and she did, retiring the last 7 Vivid batters she faced on 6 ground outs and a strike out.

Sons of Erin 8, Advance Manufacturing 6
With the Sons of Erin down by 3 at the end of the first inning, they continued to play tough to secure the win against Advance Manufacturing Company with a final score of 8-6. The defense worked hard to keep the game within reach. In the 3rd inning, Nate Blackack, on the mound, snagged a hard grounder and fired to first baseman, Patrick Moore, who fired back to the plate allowing catcher Nate Pudlo to tag out the third base runner at the plate for the double play. In the 4th inning, catcher, Sawyer King, hustled to save another run as he too tagged out a runner trying to steal home. On the offense, lead hitters were Pudlo with a double and Moore with two singles. Lucas Morganelli laid down a nice bunt allowing Dan Methe to advance to third base, putting him in scoring position. Lead RBI hitter was Brian MacIntosh, driving in two runs. Scoring for the Sons were King, Moore, Pudlo, Methe, Morganelli, MacIntosh, and Ted Dunn. The tension was high in the top of 6th inning as the Sons pulled ahead by two, and held off Advance from scoring in the bottom half to pull out the come-from-behind victory.
