Westfield reports 37 COVID-19 cases

WESTFIELD – The Health Department reported 37 new COVID-19 cases to bring the city’s pandemic total to 2,961 cases. 

No deaths were reported for the third week in a row, keeping the pandemic total for deaths at 113. There were 53 people in isolation with COVID-19 as of April 21. 

The data for the week’s report covers April 15 to April 21. The weekly report was released late on Friday this week rather than Wednesday. 

This marks the fourth straight week of falling infection rates after the spike in cases at the end of March. The Health Department had reported 80 cases on March 24 in the most recent spike. 

Westfield State University reported two COVID-19 cases this week to bring the school’s semester total to 101 cases. 20,580  COVID-19 tests have been administered at Westfield State this semester.

Residential students who test positive will quarantine in Lansdowne Place on Thomas Street if they are unable to make arrangements to quarantine in their own homes. 

Three Westfield State employees have tested positive for COVID-19 this semester. All three cases were detected in the first two weeks of the semester.
