Westfield State class presents $6,000 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation

makeawsih WESTFIELD – After two years of fundraising, Westfield State University’s class of 2014 has presented a $6,000 donation to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Recently during the Senior Convocation on September 19th at Westfield State, Brittany Moniz, senior class president, presented Peg Wheble, development officer at Make-A-Wish, with the $6,000 donation on behalf of the 2014 class council. The class has raised more than $8,000 to date for Make-A-Wish.
“The original goal was to grant a child’s wish by the end of our senior year; now the class is aiming to grant a second wish before Commencement next May,” Moniz said.
The 2014 class council raised the majority of the funds through their annual “Mr. Westfield” program. The event, modeled after the Miss America pageant, brings together 13 male students for a friendly competition that includes outfit of choice, talent, question and answer, and formalwear segments.
Additionally, the class raised money through a monthly raffle for the use of the old College President’s designated parking space, located behind Parenzo Hall.
The senior class is already preparing for the next “Mr. Westfield” program, which is scheduled for Saturday, March 29th, 2014. With this event, the class intends to raise enough money to grant a second wish.
The Make-A-Wish Foundation grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions, and provides hope, strength and joy to children and their families.
