WESTFIELD – The seasonal cries of “Play ball” will temporarily be drowned out by “Fore” as it gets closer to the second annual Westfield Terminators Golf Tournament and Dinner. This year’s event will take place on Sunday, May 19, at Tekoa Country Club, 459 Russell Road in Westfield. Registration begins at 12 noon, with a shotgun start set for 1 p.m.
The Terminators are an independent U12 baseball team made up of players from all around Westfield. This travel team will represent Westfield in a handful of area tournaments this summer, all culminating in a week-long tournament in Cooperstown, NY, in August. The tournament, played at the 22-field Cooperstown Dreams Park baseball complex, brings together teams from across the country for what past Terminators players have called “a once-in-a-lifetime experience.”
Throughout the beginning of 2013, the Terminators have been busy with fundraising efforts to offset the costs of playing in local tournaments and getting to Cooperstown. The May 19 golf tournament is the latest — and biggest — fundraiser.
Golfer registration is $100, with a foursome available for $400. All tournament player entries include greens fee, cart and dinner. Beyond getting interested and supportive individuals to play, the Terminators are also seeking sponsors. Individual golf holes can be sponsored for $125 each, which includes prominent sign placement. Other available sponsorships range from “Title Sponsor” ($2,500) to “Grand Slam” ($1,000), “Home Run” ($600), and “Triple” ($400), and each comes with golfer registrations and various levels of course signage.
Along with golf on the beautiful Donald Ross-designed 18-hole course along the Westfield River and dinner afterwards, the Terminators’ volunteers are busy collecting raffle prizes that will be available to win at the event. There will also be a Longest Drive prize, Closest-to-the-Pin, and two different prizes for a Hole-in-One — a Teddy Bear pool or spa (valued at $3,500) or a set of braces from Cordes Orthodontics (a $6,000 value).
