WESTFIELD – During his seven decades of life, which he describes as “joyous and meaningful,” Bob Plasse has had a decidedly eclectic work life. Having been an actor, arts administrator, teacher and social worker, this native of Springfield, MA graduated with an AB in English from the College of the Holy Cross in 1967 and received his MA in Social Work from Fordham University in 1994.
Moving from NYC to Westfield in 2001 with his spouse, Bob immediately got involved in their new community by co-founding Westfield on Weekends Inc. (WOW), Westfield’s premier community arts organization. After stepping down from its presidency in 2016, Bob continues to be involved with WOW as an active committee member. He has served as the Chair of Dickens Days since its inception fourteen yearsagoand has donned candles on his head as the “Spirit of Christmas Present,” prominently featured in Westfield’s annual “Lanternlight Parade,” “The Mayor’s Tree-lighting Ceremony” and the interactive “Dickens Dinners.” As a Westfield Kiwanian, Bob can also be seen auctioning items on their annual telethon.
Bob’s other volunteer work in Westfield has included being a founding board member of Westfield Museum Inc., a Westfield Athenaeum corporator, a member of the Western Hampden Historical Society, as well as Westfield’s Non-Profit Volunteer Network, and has served as a board member for the following organizations: Westfield Theatre Group, the Dewey House, and Friends of the Forum House.
Currently, Bob can be heard weekly as the host of “WOW… It’s Tuesday” on WSKB 89.5 FM, the WSU Community radio station, for which he volunteers in programming and development.
Bob has been honored to receive Westfield’s Citizen of the Year Award in 2005 and was named a Paul Harris Fellow in 2010 by Westfield’s Rotary Club International. His longtime connection to the Westfield Woman’s Club makes the award he receives very special. The Westfield Woman’s club is pleased to honor their longtime friend Bob Plasse.
