SPRINGFIELD – Joanne Berwald, Vice President of Human Resources for Mestek, Inc., will add Distinguished Citizen on May 7 to her diversified list of well-earned community accolades.
The Boy Scouts of America’s Western Massachusetts Council will honor Berwald at the 2019 Distinguished Citizen Award Dinner at Chez Josef in Agawam, where Carol Leary, president of Bay Path College will be the guest speaker.
Dinner will begin with Scouts presenting an opening ceremony at 7 p.m. following a 6 p.m. cocktail hour.
Richard Sullivan Jr., President & Chief Executive Officer of the Western Mass Economic Development Council, is chairing this year’s event. Chief Business Development Officer and Vice Chair of Westfield Bank and last year’s honoree, William Wagner, will present the award.
“Joanne’s demonstrated devotion to community serves as an excellent example to our Scouts,” Jeff Glaze, President of the council, said of Berwald. “In addition to her positions with the Western Massachusetts Council, Joanne has held countless leadership roles with local nonprofit organizations and well-known institutions. It’s no wonder that many have formally recognized her outstanding contributions, and we’re pleased to be the next to do so.”
At Mestek Ms. Berwald is responsible for leading all aspects of human resources, labor relations, benefits, wellness and strategic planning for Mestek’s eighteen locations.
Prior to joining Mestek in 2011, Ms. Berwald was with Peter Pan Bus Lines for two years as the Senior Director of Human Resources which followed sixteen year career with Buxton Company, the last eight years serving as the Vice President of Operations.
Berwald has served on many nonprofit boards throughout her career, which includes 20 years on the Western Massachusetts Council, BSA, with the last two as Assistant Vice President of Fund Development. She currently is on the council’s nominating committee and an Advisory Board member.
