WHS captains fuel offense in loss to Lancers

WESTFIELD – Senior captains Alex Affeldt and Jordan Swift scored goals to keep Longmeadow from running away with it. Affeldt netted a goal at the 26:57 mark of the first half, and Swift had one with 15 minutes remaining in the game – on a penalty stroke in a 5-2 loss yesterday.
“I appreciate the leadership of my two captains,” Westfield coach Karen Gomez said.
Westfield goalie Karly Mastello finished with 22 saves.
“We’re still finding our chemistry,” Gomez said.

JV Field Hockey
Longmeadow 2, Westfield 0
Jourdan Frisbee had 12 saves in a losing effort for Westfield, which suffered its first loss of the season.

GOLF
Cathedral 14, Southwick 10
Nick Maserill shot a team-low 40 (2 ½ points), No. 1 golfer Jake Huff shot a 43 for 3 ½ points, and Joe Frasco took 3 ½ points at the No. 6 spot.
“Cathedral is a division I team to I’m happy with that score,” said Southwick golf coach Al Selden.

Westfield 261, Belchertown 296
Mark Balicki led Westfield to victory with a 40. Bombers’ Cam Dirico shot a 41, and teammate John Kiefer, a 43.
In other games, Westfield girls’ volleyball traveled to Central to take on the Golden Eagles. No results were available as of press time today.
