WESTFIELD – Eight straight west sectional championships. A total of 141 straight victories. Zero losses.
Those are the numbers the Westfield High School gymnastics team carry into the 2015 season. It appears they are not in any real jeopardy of being interrupted just yet.
Westfield improved to 143-0 – a record that now nearly spans a decade – with a first-place finish in Thursday’s season opener at home against Hampshire and Agawam. The Bombers scored 130.5 points. The Red Raiders (126.075) and Brownies (121.2) were second and third, respectively.
Westfield’s Liz Walker won the all-around with 33.2 points. Bombers’ Mairead Hagan was second overall with a 32.125, and Kendall Neidig fourth (31.6).
Walker claimed gold on the bars (8.6), second on the floor exercise (8.65), and fifth on the balance beam (8.0).
Hagan (3rd/vault/8.325) and Emma Kotfila (1st/beam/8.55) also finished as the top Bomber in one event apiece.
