WHS off to 3-0 start

WESTFIELD – The Westfield High boys’ lacrosse team continues to surge out of the gate to begin the season. The Bombers won their third straight game Tuesday, doubling up South Hadley, 16-8.
The Bombers were led by Matt Chlastawa (7 goals, 5 assists) and Sam Scarfo (4 goals, 4 assists). The team also received strong contributions from Zach Gentle (2 goals), Max Maggipinto (2 goals, 1 assist), Anthony Sulllivan (1 goal, 1 assist), and Mason Balch (3 assists).
Mitchell Weiss, Joe Graydon, Garrett Matthews, Kane Miller, and Kevin Chambers delivered defensively for Westfield, locking down the opposition. Bombers’ goalie Jake Cupak finished with five saves, and Craig Ward was spectacular on faceoff, winning the vast majority.

O’s prove too strong
Belchertown 15, St. Mary 5

Alex Wordsworth (6 goals) and Alex Bachand (5) combined for 11 of the Belchertown Orioles’ 15 goals at Boardman Field. St. Mary’s Matt Wurster recorded a team-best two goals and an assist.

Saints win another
St. Mary 3, Sabis 2

James Marasi defeated Sabis’s Nathan Reed at first singles for St. Mary, 6-2, 6-0, and the Saints squeaked out a sweep in doubles play to gain its second victory in two days.
St. Mary’s top doubles pair Andrew Ilnicki and Patrick Boyle defeated Chris Calvanese and Roberto Falvo, 6-7, 6-3, 6-4, and Ben Rutledge and Garrett Almeida won for the Saints, defeating Justin Green and Michael Elmasian, 6-4, 7-5.
