WHS wrestlers place 3rd, again

WESTFIELD – The Westfield High School wrestling team finished – surprise – third for like the hundredth time this season, securing that place in a home dual meet against some of Western Massachusetts top talent.
Although that that may be a bit exaggerated, Westfield (16-5) is gaining a bit of momentum under head coach Bob Coe.
Westfield 152-pound senior wrestler Brandon Affeldt lost a pair of hard-fought matches – only his second and third defeats of the year – to New England qualifiers from Longmeadow (Gary Shea) and Quabbin. But Affeldt came back to smother his opponent from Chicopee Comp to regain his confidence. He led 12-0 en route to the victory.
Senior Dylan Theodorakis, and juniors Chris Galvin and Kyle Nutting also wrestled well.
“We’re relatively healthy and wrestling tough,” Coe said. “That’s all we can ask for.”
Also of note from tournament action, Gateway placed fifth. The Gators managed to defeat Longmeadow and Belchertown
