William David Halloran

WESTFIELD – William David Halloran, known as Bill, passed away on October 23, 2022. Born December 8, 1933 to James Halloran and Alice Kirwin Halloran. He was brother to James, John (Jack), Kathleen – all deceased – and Jane.

Bill grew up in Westfield, MA graduating from St. Mary’s High School in 1952. He proudly served his country in the United States Army on the Itazuki Air Base in Japan, for which he was trained as a Morse Code operator. Upon returning home, Bill worked at the Columbia Manufacturing Company making bicycles. He soon met and married Phyllis Cimini from Pittsfield, MA. Shortly after their daughter Lizbeth (Beth) was born, he enrolled at Westfield State College, earning a BA degree. He became an elementary teacher in Longmeadow, MA where he taught for eight years. He also earned a MA degree going to night school.

At this point in his career Bill was literally pulled out of the classroom to share his unique knowledge and love of literature with teachers throughout the United States. He was even invited to make presentations to some English-speaking areas in Europe. His career touched many lives in over forty years of traveling with his wonderful collection of books, meaningful ideas and great sense of humor – which he imparted on his audiences regularly.

Bill’s memory will be forever cherished by his wife Phyllis, daughter Beth, two granddaughters Kirsten and Lauren, and great- grandson Lucas. He also leaves a sister-in-law Jeanne and her daughter Christine and son John. In addition, he leaves his nephews Michael, Timothy and Christopher Halloran – and the memory of Kevin. Bill also leaves a niece Carla Cimini and nephews Stephen, John and Michael Cimini – and the memory of Ann Marie Stone.

The services will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2022, at Firtion-Adams Funeral Home located at 76 Broad Street in Westfield, MA. The calling hour will begin at 10 am and a short prayer service will begin at 11 am and then move on to St. Mary’s Cemetery. Firtionadams.com
