William J. Leonard

SOUTHWICK – William J. Leonard, 95, (1927 – 2022) died Saturday evening, December 17, 2022, surrounded by his loved ones.

Born in Springfield, MA on December 17, 1927, he was the son of the late John and Hazel (King) Leonard. William was a graduate of Springfield Trade School. He then joined the U.S. Navy in 1946 and toured on the Navy Ship the USS Gyatt. William also entered into the Honor Roll of The National WW II Museum.

William had a 40-year career with Hamilton Standard, United Technology. He worked on parts for the United States Space Program; the cooling system on space suits for American astronauts. William was a member of the International Association of Machinists and Aero Space Workers.

William enjoyed traveling with his wife Geneva and family, camping, fishing, enjoying concerts at Stanley Park, and watching the Blue Angels Air Shows. He was also a volunteer at the Southwick Senior Center, where he enjoyed playing pool with his senior friends.

He was predeceased by his wife of 47 years, Geneva (Bienkonski) Leonard on February 20, 1999. William is survived by his two children, a daughter Carol G. Leonard of Southwick and his son, David W. Leonard of Montague, MA.

A private graveside service was held at Our Lady of Czestochowa Cemetery in Turners Fall, MA. There were no calling hours.
