Woman has purse snatched from her car while in parking lot

WESTFIELD – Police are on the lookout for a purse snatcher.
A woman was sitting in her car outside of the Stop & Shop Supermarket, located at 57 Main St., at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon when a man opened the front passenger side door of her Kia Optima, according to police logs.
The man told the victim to “look over there” and the victim told the man to close the car door, according to Westfield Police Capt. Michael McCabe.
The man reached into the vehicle and stole the victim’s purse.
The man, who is described as in his 20s and not African American but with a darker complexion, ran through the parking lot near the Westfield Fire headquarters and toward the American Legion.
The suspect was wearing a dark jacket with red trim, a dark baseball cap and dark pants carrying a black purse.
