WSU bounces Becker

LEICESTER – Senior Liz Hall (Southwick) scored four goals to power Westfield State University to an 8-0 non-conference field hockey victory over Becker College on Thursday evening, Oct. 11.
The loss drops the Hawks to 1-12, while the Owls soar to 8-4.
Hall, Westfield’s leading scorer this season with 24 points (7 goals, 10 assists) got the Owls on the board just 5:39 into the game on a feed from Kelly Kenney (Suffield, Conn.).
Hall netted her second goal in the 17th minute when she scored from the top of the circle. The Owls added goals from Danielle Grenon (Somerset, Mass.) and Courtney Araujo (Somerset, Mass.) before the end of the first half for a commanding 4-0 lead.
At the start of the second half, Hall went on a tear again, scoring her final two goals of the game, lifting the Owls advantage to 6-0.
In the 56th minute freshman Taylor Chase (Holden, Mass.) got in on the scoring frenzy on an assist from Becca Davis (Rochester, Mass.). Courtney Araujo tallied her second goal of the game in the 62nd minute, making the final 8-0.
Westfield goalies Khrystyna Mitchell (Shelburne Falls, Mass.) and Jess Rodier (Oxford, Mass.) combined to make six saves on the evening.
Westfield State returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 13, when they travel to MASCAC rival Worcester State at 12:00 p.m.
Becker goalie Samantha-Jo Dilkes (Little Falls, N.J.) made two stops in a losing effort. The Hawks will try to end a two game losing streak on Wednesday, October 17, when they host Wheelock College at 4:00 p.m.
