WSU field hockey tops Regis 3-0

WESTFIELD – Westfield State University struck for three second-half goals to defeat Regis College, 3-0, in a non-conference field hockey game on Thursday evening.
Westfield State improves to 2-1 overall heading into its conference game at Eastern Connecticut State University this Saturday at 12:00. Regis is 0-5.
Interestingly, 10 of the Owls’ 14 shot attempts were in the first half when they were held scoreless. Westfield’s first goal came nearly seven minutes into the second half off a penalty corner. The goal was scored by senior Lauren Tavares (Tiverton, RI) with assists credited to junior Courtney Araujo (Somerset) and senior Liz Hall (Southwick).
The Owls scored in the 51st minute on a penalty stroke by freshman forward Emily Williams (Deerfield/Frontier Regional).
Hall scored Westfield’s third goal with 11:33 remaining with a nice assist from Becca Davis (Rochester, MA).
Regis College was not credited with a shot attempt in the game. Regis goalie Morgan Mitchell (Ashburnham) had eight saves.
