SOUTHWICK – If players for the Southwick High School baseball team feel like they’re sitting atop the world, it is because everyone else in their league is looking up to them.
Southwick clinched the Bi-County South League title with a 4-0 win over the visiting Hampshire Red Raiders. With the victory, the Rams improved to 15-4 overall, 6-1 league.
Southwick’s Nick Kavrakis pitched a complete game two-hitter, and the Rams’ offense backed their pitcher by pushing across four runs.
Kavrakis struck out eight batters, and walked four in the shutout.

Saints top Gators
St. Mary 12, Gateway 1

Nate Bonini and Jake Butler pitched a combined one-hitter for St. Mary, and the Saints’ offense piled up 12 runs.
John Daley (3-for-4, two runs, one RBI), Kevin Rockwal (2-for-3, two RBIs), Matt Hannoush (1-for-3, two walks, two runs, RBI), and Jake Masciadrelli (2-for-4, two RBIs) led the St. Mary offense. Saints’ Nate Bonini went 1-for-4 with a walk, two runs scored and an RBI.
Bonini allowed one hit and recorded six strikeouts. Butler struck out four batters, walked two, and allowed one run (unearned).

SOFTBALL
Gators persevere
Gateway 7, Sabis 6

Gateway rallied from a two-run deficit late, scoring five runs – all with two outs – in the bottom of the sixth inning to win a thriller at home.
Sabis belted a two-run home run in the top of the seventh, but Gateway held on for the win.
“We kept fighting the entire game,” Southwick coach Matt Bonenfant said. “No one gave up when we were down 4-2 in the sixth, and they all did their job.”

Slack hammers sixth homer
Westfield Technical Academy 26, Dean Tech 11 (5 inn.)

Westfield Tech sophomore Cheyenne Slack smacked her sixth home run this season in the first inning, and the Tigers cruised in a mercy-shortened win at Whitney Field.
Jeannie Alvalle, Taya Allen, Stephanie Allen, and Slack each had doubles for Westfield Tech.
Westfield Tech senior pitchers Allen and Keisha DeJesus shared the pitching duties.

Brownies upend Bombers
Agawam 10, Westfield 2

Agawam pitcher Allison Wheeler scattered four hits and struck out 10 batters, and went 2-for-4 with a walk, run, and two RBIs to spoil Westfield’s “Senior Day” festivities.

Katie Grasso went 3-for-4 for Agawam with a home run, walk, two runs, and three RBIs.

GIRLS’ LACROSSE
Kane, Bombers roll
Westfield 18, West Springfield 11

Westfield’s Sam Kane scored a game-high five goals. Bombers’ Hannah Jarvis and Olivia Chaoush each finished with three goals and one assist.
Lexi Levere (6 saves) and Yvonne Headley (9 saves) delivered an outstanding combined effort for Westfield in net.
With the victory, Westfield secured second place in the Valley League.

Watson scores 105th point
Granby 18, St. Mary 2

Katie Sarnacki recorded five goals and seven assists, and Emily Whitaker scored nine goals to lead Granby.
Jillian Watson notched her 105th point of the season with two goals for St. Mary. Saints’ Aisling Butler, who was held scoreless, has 103 this season.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL
Bombers swept
Needham def. Westfield 25-12, 25-12, 25-17

The Westfield High School boys’ volleyball team lost a tough one in their regular season finale, falling at Needham.
Igor Belokopytov (5 kills), Noah Kappel (3 kills), Ryan Murray (3 kills), 4 blocks), Scott Walsh (16 assists, 4 digs), and Tyler Stanton (16 digs) contributed for Westfield (15-3).
The Bombers await the unveiling of the Western Massachusetts tournament bracket Tuesday to find out just where they will be seeded.

BOYS’ TENNIS
Armstrong, Boyle tough in defeat
Pioneer Valley Christian Academy 5, St. Mary 0

Will Armstrong and Patrick Boyle lost hard-fought matches at first and second singles, respectively, for St. Mary. Armstrong fell to Andrew, 5-7, 2-6; Boyle suffered a 4-6, 3-6 defeat.
