Westfield State rolls past Salve Regina, 4-0

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – Sophomore Kelsey Murray scored two goals to lift the Westfield State University women’s soccer team to a 4-0 victory over Salve Regina University in second day action of the New Paltz Tournament.
Junior Sarah Sypek opened the scoring at the 12:20 mark with an assist from Amanda Grant, a junior transfer from Holyoke Community College who played at Westfield High School.
Murray scored late in the first half to stake the Owls to a 1-0 intermission lead, with an assist from junior Ashleigh Chretien.
Chretien scored early in the second with an assist from sophomore Ashley Bovat, also a Westfield High School graduate. Murrary scored her second goal with just over six minutes remaining in regulation.
Westfield outshot Salve Regina, 33-7.
The Owls are idle until Friday, Sept. 6, when they play Roger Williams University in the Springfield College Tournament. This tournament is also a classic format as Westfield will play host Springifeld on Saturday, Sept. 7, at 7:15 p.m.
