FRAMINGHAM – The Westfield State Owls scored four straight goals in the third period to propel the Owls to victory over the Framingham State Rams in MASCAC action at Loring Arena on Saturday afternoon.
With the win Westfield improves to 8-5, 5-2 MASCAC and the Rams fall to 2-8-2 and 1-5-1 in the league.
The Rams opened up scoring with the lone goal in the first period. Ricky O’Connor (North Andover) scored an unassisted goal at the midpoint of the period. The lone goal of the second period also belonged to FSU when Ryan McDonald (Anchorage, AK/ Seattle Totems) found the back of the net with assists from Brendan McCarron (Millbury/ St. John’s) & Vaughn Guetens (Chestire, Conn./ Hartford Jr. Wolfpack).
The Rams took a 2-0 advantage into the third stanza and the Owls made their strike. In the 7th minute Kyllian Kirkwood scored a shorthanded goal to put the Owls on the board. Just over two minutes later Westfield tied the score when Jay Dalton scored with 9:59 remaining.
With just over two minutes to play in regulation Jackson Leef scored the eventual game winning goal with assists being credited to Kirkwood and Cody Campbell-Rich. The Owls picked up and insurance goal in the final minute when Dalton scored his second of the game.
Ian Perrier made 31 saves in the win for the Owls. Alessio Muggli (Rueti, Switzerland/ EHC Duerten) turned away 23 shots for the Rams.
The Rams will travel to Mass.- Dartmouth on January 15th for a 7:30 p.m. faceoff. The Owls host Southern New Hampshire on January 13th.
