FRAMINGHAM – Westfield State senior center Forbasaw Nkamebo (Amherst/Amherst, Mass.) scored 18 points, becoming the 14th 1,000-point scorer in Owls women’s basketball history as Westfield posted an 86-77 win over Framingham State in a key early-season MASCAC conference game Wednesday night at Framingham.
Westfield improves to 10-4 overall and 3-0 in the MASCAC. The Rams drop to 9-5, 2-1 in the MASCAC.
Nkamebo’s 18 points give her 1,009 in her career, moving her into 13th on the Owls all-time scoring list. Nkamebo passed former teammate Gabby Felix ’15, who finished her career with an even 1,000 points. In an interesting twist, it was Felix’s knee injury three years ago that lead to expanded playing time for Nkamebo. She is also shooting up the school’s all-time rebounding chart – with 12 more rebounds tonight to give her 783 in her career, just two shy of third on the all-time list.
Junior guard Kirsy Segarra (Holyoke/Holyoke, Mass.) added 18 points and classmate Jill Valley (Mahar/Orange, Mass.) threw in 17 more for the Owls.
Westfield came out of the blocks fast with an early 13-2 lead in the first quarter, and lead by as many as 28 points in the first half. Westfield led 54-37 at halftime.
Raegin Mulherin led Framingham with 28 points. Alicia Rackliffe added 10 points and 14 rebounds for the Rams.
Westfield will be back in action on Sunday night at Eastern Connecticut game for a 6 p.m. tip off. That game was originally scheduled to be played in the first semester but due to complications was rescheduled for Sunday’s matchup. – Courtesy of Westfield State Sports
