Sanders, Piepergerdes lead way

CHICOPEE – They’re off and running in the right direction.
Westfield senior track Morgan Sanders and the Bombers’ girls’ track and field team spoiled Chicopee’s home opener Friday, defeating the Pacers 92-52.
Sanders, a superstar on the track circuit the last few years, won the 110 meter hurdles in 15.80 and long jump in 16 feet, 9.5 inches.
She was not alone in her effort.
Katrina Arona (400 meters, 1:07.50), Emily Ciccolo (400 hurdles, 1:21.00), Amanda Hall (shot put, 30-4), Katherine Knapik (javelin, 79-6), Mia McDonald (800 meters, 2:42.60), Alexa Morin (discus, 80-6), and Taylor White (2 mile, 12:23) also posted first-place finishes for Westfield (1-0).

Gabe Piepergerdes won two events to lead Westfield (0-1). Piepergerdes recorded victories in the mile (4:59.40) and high jump (5-8).
Other first-place finishers for the Bombers were: Mark Blahut (100 meters, 11.40), Jeff McConkey (200 meters, 24.70), and Sam Warinarski (800 meters, 2:05.30).
