CHICOPEE – The Westfield High School boys’ volleyball team has had sweeping success in more ways than one in a short amount of time.
One year ago, Westfield became the Western Massachusetts champions. More recently, the Bombers knocked off the region’s top team, Agawam, to reclaim the top spot.
On Thursday, Westfield defeated Chicopee Comp in three straight sets, 25-13, 25-16, 25-9, but more importantly, celebrated head coach Tyler Wingate’s 100th victory.
“It is a nice accomplishment for myself personally, but what it’s all about is the players,” coach Wingate said. “I’m proud of the boys I have coached throughout the year and all the dedication and support they’ve put into growing this program. It wasn’t easy early on and I’m glad we got a quality league victory today to cap it off.”
Igor Belokopytov (7 kills, 5 digs), Eddie Loboda (6 kills, 2 aces), Noah Kappel (8 kills, 3 blocks), Scott Walsh (22 assists, 3 aces), and Tyler Stanton (10 digs) helped spur Westfield’s win.
The tournament-bound Bombers will now look to better their playoff seed over the course of the next few weeks.
