5:21 a.m.: larceny, Springfield Road, a caller from a Springfield Road department store reports that a female shoplifter fled after attempting to steal a cartload of merchandise, the responding officer reports the vehicle was stopped and the woman said that because she has fallen on hard times she was attempting to steal her basic necessities, the store management elected to serve the woman a ‘No trespassing’ order;
7:31 a.m.: larceny, Granville Road, a caller reports two motorcross motorcycles were stolen from his garage, the responding officer reports the caller said that his son’s motorcycles were known to be in the garage about 5 p.m. the night before and access to the garage was gained by breaking a pane of glass, the man said that other property had to have been moved to get to the motorcycles, the man said that his son had advertised one of the motorcycles on an online sales site, the officer noted that at 2:58 a.m. an officer had seen a man who was not wearing a helmet riding a dirt bike eastbound on East Main Street toward West Springfield and police in that city said that they gave chase to two motorcyclists who did not stop and escaped across the river to Springfield;
8:00 a.m.: larceny, East Silver Street, a caller from an East Silver Street supermarket reports a 14-year-old shoplifter has been detained, the responding officer reports that store employees said they were unable to contact the boy’s grandmother but elected to forgo criminal charges in favor of a “no trespassing’ order, the order was served and the boy was transported to Westfield Middle School South where he was surrendered to the custody of the principal, the officer reports he subsequently was able to speak with boy’s grandmother and she was apprised of his actions;
11:28 a.m.: unwanted guests, a caller reports two person at her mother’s apartment refuse to leave, the responding officer reports the two persons were served with ‘No trespassing’ orders;
12:51 p.m.: accident, Llewellyn Drive, a caller reports a worker fell from a bucket truck, dual response dispatched, the responding officer reports the owner of the tree service said that the man was a new employee who was not authorized to operate the bucket truck, the worker reportedly fell about 15 feet to the ground and was transported to Baystate Medical Center where he was admitted and subsequently discharged;
2:10 p.m.: city ordinance violation, Prospect Street, a patrol officer reports that he observed a high school-aged girl walking against traffic on Prospect Street and asked her to instead walk on the clear sidewalk on the other side of the road because of the hazard caused by approaching traffic negotiating pot holes, the officer reports the girl said “No, that’s okay I’ll do it next time” and said she did not feel like crossing the road at that time, the officer reports that when he insisted the girl finally complied after he identified himself by name, the girl refused to identify herself;
2:17 p.m.: arrest, Air National Guard, 175 Falcon Drive, a caller from the 104th Fighter Group base security force reports a man who appears to have an active warrant has been detained, the warrant was confirmed and Mardy T. James, 59, of 260 Main St., Leeds, was arrested on a warrant issued in 2014 by Northampton District Court;
4:06 p.m.: disorderly conduct, Westfield Police Department, an officer reports that a woman who came to the station to make a statement changed her mind and became disorderly when directed to leave the interview room, the woman declined to calm down and assaulted an officer, Kristin Laura Wheeler, 32, of 97 Elm St., was arrested for assault and battery on a police officer and disorderly conduct;
9:55 p.m.: identity fraud, Bates Road, a resident came to the station to report fraud, the responding officer reports the complainant said that she and her husband have learned that someone had used their personal information to file a tax return in their names;
10:17 p.m.: accident, Springfield Road, multiple callers reports that a vehicle is on the railroad tracks in the area, a dispatcher contacted CSK Railroad to request that rail traffic be suspended while the vehicle was on the tracks, the responding officer reports the operator of the vehicle said that his car was sideswiped while traveling eastbound on Springfield Road and the impact sent the vehicle across the roadway and up the berm to the railroad tracks, both occupants of the car were transported to Noble Hospital where both were treated and released, a CSX employee arrived to inspect the track.
