SOUTHAMPTON — Select Board and School Committee incumbents face challengers and two candidates are vying for an open Board of Health seat in contests that will be decided at the annual town election on May 4.
Incumbent David McDougall, Shannon Cutler and Charles J. Kaniecki are seeking the two available three-year seats on the Select Board. One is currently held by Edward J. Cauley, who is not seeking re-election after one three-year term. Last year, he retired as town highway superintendent after nearly 30 decades in that position.
McDougall, a physician, was first elected to the Select Board in 2004. He did not run for reelection in 2011, but was elected again in 2012.
Shannon Cutler is the administrative assistant for the Board of Assessors.
Charles J. Kaniecki is the chairman of the town’s Public Safety Complex Committee and works for the state Department of Public Health.
There are three candidates for two three-year seats on the Hampshire Regional School Committee — incumbent Joseph Moynahan, Margaret Larson and Tammy Walunas. Board member Kimberly Schott is not seeking re-election.
Jeffrey M. Dugas and Charles D. Kaniecki are competing for a three-year seat on the Board of Health, and Lisa Lauro is running unopposed for a one-year term on the Board of Health. One of those seats is currently vacant and Chairwoman Lisa Brodeur-McGan is not seeking re-election.
Charles J. Kaniecki is the father of Charles D. Kaniecki.
Other candidates are unopposed.
Incumbents running without a challenge are Janine Domina, town clerk; Robert Floyd, cemetery commissioner and town moderator; Michael Goyette, constable; and Matthew Christy, water commissioner.
The four incumbent Edwards Public Library trustees running unopposed are Maxine E. Brodeur, Kathy H. Dahler, Faith Harrison and Convy Stahl.
Also running are Michael Rosenburg and incumbent Janet Cain for two Finance Committee seats; Lauren Bell and incumbent Anne-Marie Darcy for two Housing Authority seats; Paul Furgal and incumbent James Labrie for two Planning Board seats; Sunia Pallante and Jeffrey D. Swanson for two seats as park commissioner.
Other unopposed candidates are Karl Kuehner for almoner, Christine Wright for the William E. Norris School Committee and Ron Laurin for tree warden.
There are no candidates for a second constable position and seats on the Finance Committee, Board of Assessors and Personnel Policy Procedure Board.
Polls will be open from noon to 8 p.m. May 4 at the senior center in Town Hall.
