Commercial Distributing opened its season in style with a 10-0 win over Hastie Fence. David Tirrell provided a strong pitching performance recording 12 strikeouts in four innings of shutout ball. He allowed just one hit.
Commercial opened the scoring in the second inning bringing three runs across. They added one in the third and broke the game open with six in the 5th inning. The 10 hit offensive attack was led by the multi-hit gains of Adam Tremblay (single, double, RBI, 3 runs), Jay Scherpa (2 singles, 2 runs), and Ethan Mulville (2 singles, 2 RBI). Darin Towle contributed with a single and 2 RBI.

Slovak Club 13, Advanced Manufacturing 0
In the season opener for both teams, Advance Manufacturing fell 13-0 to Slovak Club on Saturday afternoon at Paper Mill Field. Aidan Krol got the start on the mound for the Boys in Blue and struck out two over three plus innings of work. Jaden Gonzalez followed Krol on the mound and struck out two hitters during his stint in relief. Krol led the way at the plate for the Advance Manufacturers going 2-2 with a double and a single. Ryder Pieczarka and Aidan Jubb also reached base for Advance Manufacturing. On the defensive side of the ball, Jubb was solid behind the plate for the entire game while Owen Jurczyk and Luke Bonini each contributed a nice defensive putout.

Kiwanis 3, Air Compressor 2
Kiwanis met National League rival Air Compressor on Opening Day 2015 at Paper Mill Field. It turned out to be a pitching duel between Tyler Cousineau of Kiwanis and Matt Bernatchez of Air Compressor. Cousineau pitched four strong innings striking out 10 and giving up two runs. Bernatchez pitched four full innings striking out 10 and giving up one run. Kiwanis took the lead in the first with some fancy running by Anthony Schabowski who hustled home to score Kiwanis’ first run of the season.
Heading into the bottom of the 6th, things looked bleak for Kiwanis. But Cousineau started the rally with a single. After Cousineau advanced on a passed ball, Joey Calderella strode to the plate. Calderella then lined a double to left tying the game and keeping Kiwanis’ hope alive. Up next came Jared Noel, who had a tremendous at bat. With one out and the winning run on second, Noel drove a ball to deep right field, scoring Calderella and securing the “walk off” win for Kiwanis. Cam Hoynoski was tremendous behind the dish at catcher and Sean Dondley and Will Brewster each had a single. Anthony Schabowski pitched two scoreless innings in relief.

Commercial Distributing 6, Westfield Police 0
For the second time in as many days, Commercial Distributing earned a victory. With the win they move to 2-0 on the season.
The winning formula was the same – strong starting pitching. Jake LaBombard went the distance throwing a three hit shutout. He was in control all day, keeping batters guessing and striking out 14 along the way.
Jake helped his own cause, at the plate and on the bases, with a base hit and three runs scored. Other contributors were David Tirrell 2 for 2 (single, triple, 2 RBI, 2 runs) and Chris Wilda 1 for 2 (single, RBI).

Air Compressor Engineering 12, Advance Manufacturing 2
Advance Manufacturing jumped out to early 1-0 and 2-1 lead but was unable to hang on against Air Compressor Engineering. Owen Jurczyk (1 BB, run scored) and Aidan Jubb (1-2, 1 RBI) got Advance Manufacturing off on the right foot when Jurczyk walked and Jubb drove him in with an RBI single.
After Air Compressor tied the game at 1, Advance Manufacturing scored again in the bottom of the second. Wyatt Baker started the rally with a hit batsman and came around to score on an RBI from Sean O’Keefe (1-1, RBI). Advance Manufacturing was unable to hold the lead as Air Compressor’s bats came alive in the later innings. Jackson Lambert (1-1), Niko Bacopoulos (1-2), Trent Viamari (2-2) and Ethan Porter (1-3) all provided offensive support for Advance Manufacturing. Porter made his Majors debut on the mound and was very impressive for the Boys in Blue. Porter struck out one and yielded only one walk in 2 2/3 innings of work. Viamari (1 inning, 1 K) and Jurczyk (1 strikeout) also worked on the mound for the home team.

Kiwanis 6, Camfour 5
Joey Calderella took to the mound for Kiwanis and fanned three batters in two innings. Cam Hoynoski, Jared Noel, and Riley Sullivan pitched tremendous in relief. The game was back in forth and would have to be settled in extra innings. With the game tied at 5 in the bottom of the 7th, Ryan Morash started the rally by getting hit by a pitch and then advanced to second on a passed ball. Anthony Schabowski then proceeded to drive a sharp single to right field plating Morash and securing the walk-off-win for Kiwanis. It was the second walk-off-win for Kiwanis in consecutive days. Jimmy Cloutier went 1 for 2 with a walk and run scored. Joey Calderella continued his hot hitting streak going 2 for 3 with a double. JT Oleksak went 1 for 2 with a ringing triple. Will Brewster walked and stole a base. Tyler Cousineau went 1 for 2 with a double and run scored. Sean Dondley singled and played stellar defense. Kiwanis moved to 2-0 on the season.

The Moose Club 3 – Westfield Police 2
The Little League home opener for The Moose Lodge was a walk off victory over the Westfield Police with a final score of 3-2. Brandon Powell drove in Alex Provost with the game-winning run in the bottom of the 6th inning for the win. Tobey Barlow opened the scoring in the first inning for The Moose, scoring on a pass ball after reaching base via a walk. In the second inning for The Moose, Daniel Provost led off the inning with a double to the right field fence, and went on to score on a passed ball as well. The 2-0 score was holding up for The Moose until the top of the 5th inning, when the Police’s Ty Leonard hit a shot to deep left for a double, and then scored on a passed ball. Moving on to the top of the 6th, the score still 2-1, Jacob Wagner led off with a walk for the Police. Colin Reed then connected for a base hit to right to move Wagner to second. The runners then advanced to 2nd and 3rd base on a ground out.
The tension mounted with The Moose infield on the grass, Sean Roselli laced a base hit by the diving short stop scoring Wagner. Then on a beautiful relay play by Aiden Lakin to Patrick Flaherty and on to Alex LaCourse, Reed was thrown out at home. Joey Dekarski then struck out the final batter to get out of the 6th. The score 2-2, bottom of the 6th, and the bottom of the order due up for The Moose Club, Alex Provost hit a one out single to left center. Dorean Neron came up and blasted an infield single to advance both runners to 2nd and 3rd on an errant throw. Thus bringing up Powell for his heroics. Dekarski pitched a gem of a game, striking out 14 in his complete game effort for The Moose Club.

Bertera Dodge 7, Specialty Bolt & Screw 6
Bertera Dodge was victorious in its first game of the season over Specialty Bolt. The teams battled all game with several lead changes. In the bottom of the 6th inning, Bertera was able to break a 6-6 tie with a steal of home by Nick Lenfest.
The teams started slowly with Bertera holding a 2-0 lead after three innings. Colby LaPoint started the game and threw two scoreless innings while recording five strikeouts. In the 4th inning the floodgates opened with Specialty Bolt scoring five runs in the top of the inning to take the lead. In the bottom of the inning, Bertera came roaring back with four runs of their own due to the strong hitting of Lenfest, Andrew Navarro, Alex Guzman, and Everett Stec. Specialty Bolt responded in the top of the 5th with a run to tie the game at 6-6.
Bertera was led offensively by Lenfest (2 for 3, single, double, 2 runs). Navarro, Guzman, and Stec each went 1 for 2, with a single and a run scored. LaPoint scored two runs after reaching base with walks.

Tucker’s Restaurant 10, Green Meadow Lumber 3
On opening weekend, Green Meadow Lumber battled Wheeler League team Tucker’s Restaurant.
Tucker’s Restaurant took an early 5-1 lead in the first inning to capture a 10-3 victory. Top hitters for Tucker’s were Brendon Morse, Nathan Pudlo and Connor Niemiec, each hitting a two-bagger, and Ethan Thompson smashing a three-bagger. Leading scorers for Tucker’s were Ted Dunn scoring three runs and Andrew Bruno scoring two. Morse, Pudlo, Niemiec, Thompson as well as Sam Yesu crossed the plate for the victors. Tucker’s pitchers Dunn and Niemiec threw for 15 K’s in this first game. Offensively and defensively it was a great season opener for Tucker’s Restaurant.

Fenway Westfield 8, King Pest Control 7
Fenway Westfield started the season strong with a win against King Pest Control. The game started in Fenway’s favor, with an unearned run in the bottom of the first inning. King Pest Control scored five runs in the top of the second inning, highlighted by a bases loaded double that plated three runs by Cooper LeClair. LeClair would later score on a RBI double by Brandon Kingsley. Fenway Westfield answered by scoring three runs in the bottom of the second, two in the third inning, and two more unearned runs, one in each of the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings. Fenway kept King Pest Control off the scoreboard until the top of the sixth, when Sullivan Donohue led off with a single and moved to second when LeClair reached on a error setting up Kingsley for a two RBI double that closed the deficit to one run. Kingsley would get as far as third base but Fenway Westfield was able to hold off a King Pest Control’s rally, for an 8-7 victory.
Kingsley finished the day 3 for 4, with two doubles and three RBI and LeClair knocked in three runs and scored twice for King Pest Control. Alejandro Rogers walked three times, scored a run, had an RBI and pitched two innings with three strikeouts while allowing two runs for King Pest Control. Eli Petrone started on the mound for King Pest Control, pitching two innings, struck out four and allowed three runs, one unearned. Donohue pitched a quick inning allowing only an unearned run.

Pikeside Auto 9, Expert Fitness 9
Pikeside Auto and Expert Fitness were evenly matched on a beautiful Sunday afternoon during opening weekend. The two teams battled it out for three innings to a 9-9 draw. Ethan Bargatti led Pikeside Auto with three runs scored. Brody DeBruin, Jackson Phillips, and Jonah Ripka each went 3 for 3. Phillips finished his three hit performance with a line drive past the third baseman.

Teddy Bear Pools vs. Prolamina
Teddy Bear Pools and Spa opened their 2015 season at Papermill field. Jaxson Stpierre threw a gem, striking out nine and giving up one hit in three scoreless innings pitched. Max Kosimider came in the 4th striking out four in his two innings pitched. Kosimider went 3-3 at the plate and had some solid defensive plays in the field. Chase Boisseau was a wall behind home with several blocks and catching a third strike foul tip in the 2nd. Boisseau was equally impressive with the bat going 3-3. Cam Beaudette and Jaden Stpierre both had two hits. While David Beattie, Stephen Pryor and Jaxson Stpierre each had solid hits. Domnik Stewart scored 2 of Teddy bears pools and spas 4 runs.
SOFTBALL ROUNDUP

Montgomery Road Animal Hospital 12, Richards Grinders 11
In the season opener, Richard’s Grinders faced tough competitors Montgomery Road Animal Hospital. Richard’s Grinders had a strong showing and scored in all four innings played. Lauren Menzel started the first inning off with a base hit led by two stolen bases. Heading into the second inning with a 4-2 lead, Ava Gaughan and Amber Garfield both hit an infield single, followed by Morgan Ruffo’s triple with two RBI’s. Richard’s Grinders s held the lead after the second inning with a 9-5 score. Moirean Coffey hit a solid single to right field and stole two bases leaving the inning at 10-7. Cloe Spafford scored another run for Richard’s in the fourth making the score 11-7. Montgomery Road didn’t give up and scored five times in the fourth inning, ending the game 12-11.

Westfield Police Association 0, Dunkin Donuts 0
Westfield Police and Dunkin Donuts battled to a scoreless tie in a pitchers duel on opening day in the girls 8u softball division. Westfield Police starter, Mia Tavares making her little league debut, pitched three scoreless innings striking out 9 while walking only one. She also garnered her first ever hit. Alejandra Strange chipped in with her first two career hits and Willa Haskins made nice contact as well. After Tavares left the game, Allie Stucenski entered and made her pitching debut facing seven batters over two innings and striking out six. After five innings the game ended in a scoreless tie. Both teams had strong pitching, getting the year off to a fun start.
