Kiwanis V Air Compressor
Everyone in Westfield Little League had this game circled on the calendar as Air Compressor and Kiwanis battled for supremacy in the National League. Tyler Cousineau for Kiwanis and Matt Bernatchez for Air Compressor battled on the mounds. Cousineau had nine strikeouts for Kiwanis. Anthony Schabowski, Tyler Cousineau, JT Oleksak, and Joey Calderella each were 2 for 3. Jimmy Cloutier, Will Brewster, Jared Noel, and Cam Hoynoski were 1 for 2. Bernatchez was tough striking out nine Kiwanis hitters. Air Compressor hung on for the victory 6-4. Kiwanis falls to 6-4.

Commercial 6, Hastie Fence 5
Hastie Fence started off the game by putting two runs on the board in the first inning with a single by Nate Podmore, double by Adam Blair, walk by Mason Barnachez, and a single by Josh Sturmer.
With five strikeouts through three innings, the strong pitching of Josh Mayo kept Commercial off the board. In the third inning, Hastie Fence netted another run off a single by Cody Collins and another double by Adam Blair. Commercial pushed in three runs in the fourth to make a game of it. Strong defense and great pitching kept this one a nail-biter from start to finish.
Hastie Fence’s Anthony Pighetti walked, Nate Podmore singled, and Adam Blair singled to bring in another run in the fifth, capping off a 3 for 3 day for Blair at the plate. Again, Commercial pushed back scoring two in the fifth inning to make it a 5-4 game. Josh Mayo walked to start the sixth inning and eventually scored the tying run on a steal of home plate! Commercial had their final chance in the bottom of the sixth and pushed across the winning run. This was easily the best game of the season for Hastie Fence even though it ended up in the loss column. Great effort, play, and, sportsmanship on both sides of the diamond.

Kiwanis V Hastie Fence 11, Kiwanis 9
The game started out back and forth and continued that way for seven innings. Kiwanis battled each and every step of the way. Scoring a run in the bottom of the 4th to tie the game at 5, scoring two runs in the bottom of the 5th to tie the game at 7, and scoring 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th to push the game into extra innings, tied 9-9. But Hastie Fence was too much for Kiwanis, pushing 2 more runs across in the top of the 7th to ensure the victory. Kiwanis falls to 6-5.
For Hastie Fence, Anthony Schabowski was 1 for 4 with a double, Tyler Cousineau was 2 for 4, JT Oleksak was 1 for 4, Jared Noel was 1 for 3, Riley Sullivan was 1 for 3 with 2 runs scored, and Ryan Morash had 2 runs scored.
Hastie Fence 11, Kiwanis 9
Another game, another tough opponent to battle. Hastie Fence’s Cody Collins and Nate Podmore combined to throw seven innings, yes seven innings, of solid pitching. Through two innings, the score was 0-0, then the bats ignited. Kiwanis was able to push across four in the third inning. Not to be outdone, Hastie Fence pushed across three of our own in the third inning. A triple by Nate Podmore, double by Cody Collins, walk by Adam Blair, and a single by Mason Barnachez made it a 4-3 game. After allowing one run in the fourth, Hastie Fence’s bats stayed hot. A leadoff walk by Josh Mayo, single by Ethan Baush, and a single by Nick Brown netted two more runs making it a 5-5 game. Kiwanis pushed across two runs each in the fifth and sixth innings. Yet, Hastie Fence would not stop battling. In the fifth inning, a leadoff walk by Nate Podmore, a single by Mason Barnachez, and a walk by Josh Sturmer combined with smart baserunning scored two runs for Hastie Fence. In the sixth, walks by Ethan Baush, Nick Brown, and Patrick Callahan combined with a single by Nate Podmore scored two more runs. So, off to the seventh inning! Holding Kiwanis scoreless in the seventh, Hastie Fence was able to push across two more runs. A single by Mason Barnachez, walk by Josh Mayo, and a triple by Walter Nonotti allowed Hastie Fence to notch another one in the win column. Way to go, Hastie!

Kiwanis 16, Camfour 0
After a tough loss the day before, Kiwanis looked to bounce back against interleague rival Camfour. It was all Kiwanis from the beginning. Kiwanis had 18 hits on the day and won 16-0 to improve to 7-5. Sean Dondley and Will Brewster were 3 for 3, Tyler Cousineau, Joey Calderella, Jared Noel and Jimmy Cloutier were 2 for 3. Cloutier had a single and a double on the day. Riley Sullivan was 1 for 3, Dylan Arooth and Cam Hoynoski was 1 for 2. Kiwanis had great defensive from Jared Noel, Will Brewster, Ryan Morash, and Sean Dondley.

Kiwanis 10, Sons of Erin 0
Kiwanis got the bats started early against the Sons of Erin scoring 3 in the first and 5 in the second. In the first, Anthony Schabowksi walked, Tyler Cousineau singled, and JT Oleksak hit a towering 3 run Home Run over the left center field fence.
Anthony Schabowski, Riley Sullivan, and Jared Noel were 1 for 1 each with runs scored. Riley Sullivan and Anthony Schabowski combined for 8 strikeouts on the hill for Kiwanis. Jared Noel played great behind the dish for Kiwanis and Ryan Morash played great defensively. Kiwanins won 10-0 and improved to 8-5.

Kiwanis 10, Advance 8
Joey Calderella took to the hill for Kiwanis and pitched solid with 5 K’s. The game was back and forth with Advance taking an early 4-1 lead. Jimmy Cloutier got the rally going for Kiwanis with a one hop double to the left center field fence in the 4th. Kiwanis pushed 8 runs across in the 4th and eventually held on for the win, 10-8. Anthony Schabowski was 1 for 1 with a run scored, Tyler Cousineau and Riley Sullivan were 1 for 2 with runs scored. Sullivan laced a triple to right field late in the game. Jared Noel was 1 for 3, Will Brewster was 3 for 3, JT Oleksak was 2 for 2 with a double, Ryan Morash had a run scored and Cam Hoynoski was 1 for 2 with a run scored. Kiwanis improved to 9-5 on the year.

Kiwanis 3, Commercial 1
On a beautiful Saturday morning, the cross town rivals met at beautiful Paper Mill field. This was billed as the game of the year with Kiwanis and Commercial barely hanging onto first place in each of their respective divisions.
Dylan Arooth got the rally going for Kiwanis with a ringing double to right scoring Tyler Cousineau who singled earlier in the inning. Cousineau was 2 for 2 with a run scored, Arooth was 2 for 2. Sean Dondley was 1 for 2, and Cam Hoynoski was 1 for 2 with a run scored.
Cousineau was outstanding on the mound for Kiwanis striking out 16 batters. But Commercial battled back in the top of the 6th to knot the game at 1-1.
With the game now tied, Cam Hoynoski led off the inning with a single. After an out, 10-year-old Anthony Schabowski strode to the plate. Hemmingway affectionately called it “grace under pressure”. And with the first pitch, Schabowski drilled a two run walk off Home Run into the left field bleachers in what will forever live in Westfield Little League lore. The walk off win was the 4th walk off win for Kiwanis this year, improving their record to 10-5.

Kiwanis 8, Police 7
After an emotional win on Saturday, it was only natural to have a let down from Kiwanis against hard hitting Police. After giving up 3 runs in the top of the 1st, Kiwanis settled down and started there come back, scoring 5 in the 2nd and 3 more in the 4th. Anthony Schabowski and JT Oleksak were 1 for 2. Tyler Cousineau was 2 for 2 with 2 doubles and a run scored. Will Brewster was 2 for 3. Kiwanis had runs scored by Sean Dondley, Jared Noel, Riley Sullivan, Cam Hoynoski, and Ryan Morash. Cam Hoynoski pitched 5 strong innings striking out 10 Police batters.
Police made a tremendous come back over their own in the top of the 6th scoring 4 runs. But relief pitcher Riley Sullivan settled down to get the last out securing the win for Kiwanis 8-7. Kiwanis has won 6 one run games this year. Kiwanis improved to 11-5.

Advance Manufacturing 10, Sons of Erin 9
Advance Manufacturing outlasted Sons of Erin in a back and forth game at Cross Street Field. Advance jumped out to an early lead scoring 3 runs in the top of the first inning. Owen Jurczyk and Luke Bonini got things started with back-to-back singles and Ethan Porter drove in the first run of the game with a solid base hit plating Jurczyk. Aidan Jubb and Wyatt Baker followed with RBI singles scoring Bonini and Porter.
After falling behind 7-3, Advance cut the lead to 7-6 in the top of the 5th. Porter and Ryder Pieczarka worked a couple of lead off walks and Jubb drove in Porter with a base hit for his second RBI of the game. Trent Viamari then came up with a clutch single down the right field line scoring both Pieczarka and Jubb and cutting Sons’ lead to one. After Sons scored two insurance runs in the bottom of the 5th to make it 9-6, the Advance bats came alive with four runs of their own to take the lead for good in the top of the 6th. Pieczarka and Jubb each had an RBI single in the inning and Viamari drove in Jubb with a base hit to plate the eventual winning run.
Viamari started on the mound for the Boys in Blue and struck out 2 over 2 2/3 innings. Porter relieved Viamari and was absolutely brilliant in relief. He struck out 8 while yielding only 2 hits during his 3 1/3 innings of work. Once Advance captured the lead in the top of 6th inning, Porter quickly retired Sons 1-2-3 in the bottom of the 6th to preserve the victory.
WHEELER LEAGUE

Batter’s Box 13, King Pest Control 10
The Batter’s Box scored runs in each of 5 innings they batted to outlast King Pest Control 13-10. King Pest Control received strong offensive contributions from Jayden Santiago, Cooper LeClair, and Dylan St. Onge. Santiago went 2-4 including an RBI triple and a three run double off the fence. LeClair had three hits including two doubles and three runs scored. St.Onge was on base all four times and scored three runs.

Tucker’s Restauant 8, Bertera Dodge 7
After a tough fight, Tucker’s Restaurant defeated Bertera Dodge with a score of 8-7 with some notable offensive hits and defensive plays throughout the game. Bertera Dodge scored early, taking a three run lead in their first at bat. Tucker’s Restaurant roared back in the bottom of the first as Ted Dunn, Connor Niemiec and Nathan Pudlo all crossed the plate. Zachariah Gravel-Blaney drove in two of those runs with a deep blast to the outfield.
After a slow 2nd inning for both teams, Tucker’s Restaurant came alive in the 3rd when Andrew Bruno smashed an inside the park homerun, bringing the score to 4-3 in Tucker’s favor. Tucker’s defense was hot in the 3rd when Ethan Thompson stopped two grounders and tagged first base for the first two outs of the inning. Bruno then prevented a runner from reaching base as he too stopped a hard shot to second and threw the runner out at first ending the inning with only one run crossing the plate, preserving a 4-4 tie.
In the fourth inning pitcher, Dunn, struck out three batters, preventing any runners from scoring for Bertera Dodge. Tucker’s gained ground in this inning as Pudlo and Thompson made their way around the diamond scoring two more runs. Daniel Cavanaugh then showed his running ability by stealing home on a passed ball bringing the score to 7-4.
Bertera put up a strong fight in the last inning against Tucker’s pitching and scored three times to tie the game at 7-7. Suspense was high, when it was Tucker’s turn to bat in the bottom of the sixth. With Reyes, Dunn, and Niemiec loading the bases and two outs already recorded, Gravel-Blaney made his way to the plate. With the game winning run at third base, Gravel-Blaney slammed a long shot into right field, driving home the winning run and advancing Tucker’s record to 8-4.
ROOKIE LEAGUE

Rookie Pikeside Auto 9, Citgo 9
Pikeside and Citgo battled to yet another draw in rookie baseball. Connor Hoynoski made a great play at first, tagging out the runner. Brody DeBruin hit an amazing fly ball into center field. Hannah Markel was able to field a ball and beat the runner in a foot race to get the out at first. Tyler Howard turned on his speed to beat out a tag play at third base. It was a great blend of offense and defense in this 9-9 tie.

Rookie Pikeside Auto 9, 7B’s 7
Pikeside and 7B’s were able to get in 2 and half innings before the thunder started rumbling. The sky was gray and a few showers fell on this cold breezy day. Pikeside was able to edge out 7B’s with a great defensive 2nd inning. Hannah Markel outran the batter to get the first out. Ethan Bargatti made a great play at first base and was able to just touch the base for the out. Jackson Phillips finished off the inning fielding a ball up the middle and stepping on second base for the force. Jonah Ripka had 3 hits on the day and also had one run scored. Pikeside had a real team effort with everyone reaching base at least once. This is Pikeside’s first win due to the solid 2nd inning defense. – Courtesy of Westfield Little League
