Volleyball sweeps pair at tri match

HOLYOKE – Westfield State proved victorious defeating the Wildcats of Bay Path in the first match 25-14, 25-15 and 25-14 and finishing off the Spartans of Castleton in five games 25-15, 25-15, 22-25, 17-25 and 15-3. In the final match of the day the host Wildcats were unable to take the Spartans falling in four games 25-15, 24-26, 25-23 and 25-22.

GAME ONE:

The Owls’ senior outside hitter Kendyl Haney (Ashland, Mass.) led all hitters with 13 kills and a stellar .480 attack percentage. Fellow senior outside hitter Shannon Shea (Chelmsford, Mass.) tallied 7 kills and 12 digs. Sophomore setter Brigid Murray (Norfolk, Mass.) topped her team with 16 assists.
The Wildcats were led by sophomore outside hitter Lauren Vallee (Bristol, Conn.) with nine kills and seven digs. Freshman setter Lexi Cears (Agawam, Mass.) finished with 11 assists, while freshman newcomer and defensive specialist Joanne Nazario (Springfield, Mass.) made her collegiate debut at Libero tallying 11 digs.

Game Two:

The Owls managed to stop the Spartans comeback shutting them down 15-3 in the final game. Their attack percentage for the final set was a sizzling .364. Senior middle hitter Casey Howe (Chelmsford, Mass.) led all players with 16 kills and a .343 hitting percentage. She also added five service aces, four digs and one block solo. Junior outside hitter Kelsey Reilly (Shrewsbury, Mass.) came off the bench to put up some stellar number as well finishing with 11 kills.
Junior middle hitter Brittany Brayman (Hartford, N.Y.) topped the Spartans with eight kills and 16 kills, chipping in one block assist. Senior middle hitter Kaylee Pratt (Hampton, N.Y.) finished with seven kills, five digs and two blocks. – Story courtesy Bay Path sports info
