Red Sox trophy adds Series’ shine

WESTFIELD – Twelve years ago, the Boston Red Sox rocked the baseball world, breaking the “Curse of the Bambino” by sweeping the St. Louis Cardinals in the 100th edition of the World Series, and winning their first championship since 1918.
The historic run began when the Red Sox rallied from three games down to defeat the New York Yankees in the American League Championship series.
It was a moment in history to remember.

In 2013, the Boston Red Sox eliminated the Tampa Bay Rays, Detroit Tigers, and St. Louis Cardinals en route to winning their third championship in nine years.
This season, Boston has been in celebration mode since opening day as the team bids farewell to one of its most iconic players, David “Big Papi” Ortiz.
Fans who seek a nostalgic look back into the past as the team makes one more run at history will have a golden opportunity to share in the glory late next week when the 2013 World Series trophy comes to town.
On Friday, August 12, the Red Sox 2013 World Series trophy will be on display at Bullens Field during the Babe Ruth Baseball 14 Year-Old World Series from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
“A World Series trophy for our World Series guests,” said Westfield Babe Ruth Baseball League President Dan Welch, who helped orchestrate the trophy trip. “The Red Sox were willing to show the trophy to our guests. We encourage people to come out and buy a ticket (to our World Series).”
The Babe Ruth World Series gets under way Thursday, August 11. The complete schedule of events is expected later this week.
