Knot happening

PITTSFIELD – Knot. Much. Happened.
Those three words uttered by Westfield High School boys’ soccer coach Andrew Joseph could easily describe Saturday games for two area teams. They do not tell the whole story though as the end result, a 0-0 tie, led to a point in the standings and could easily increase postseason chances greatly for both teams.
The other scoreless tie involved the Southwick girls’ soccer team, which escaped Monument Mountain with a point.

“Not much happened, but we were very, very happy with how we played defensively,” coach Joseph said. “We had some good opportunities on the counter attack. Our shape on the back was excellent. Our pressure on the ball was very good, and timed correctly.”
Joseph said the backs and center-midfielders were key in preserving a tie.
“It was a decent result for coming up hour drive 11 a.m.,” he said. “It’s good to get a point out of this game.”
The road does not get any easier for Westfield, which has upcoming contests against Ludlow (Monday) and Belchertown (Thursday). The Bombers will get a bit of a break though as they are home for both games, beginning at 4 p.m.
