WESTFIELD – Well, take a big sigh of relief.
The halfway point of the National Football League season has arrived and eight weekly champions have been crowned in our pro football pick’em contest, “Beat ‘The Putz’”.
Congratulations to Alan Shia (Week 1, 11-2), Carrie Egleston (Week 2, 11-3), Stephen Sabadosa (Week 3, 11-3), George Kelleher (Week 5, 10-3), Jack Pelli (Week 6, 11-2), Gerald Roberts (Week 7, 10-3), and Daniel Alvord (Week 8, 11-0), all of whom have won a gift certificate to The Tavern Restaurant for posting the best record during one of the eight weeks of football this season.
Alvord cruised past my 9-2 mark into the field of grand prize entrants like Gronk gliding into the end zone with a perfect 11-0 record.
Each weekly winner will receive an entry in the season-ending grand prize drawing for a one-in-17 chance drawing to win a flat-screen television, courtesy of Manny’s TV & Appliances.
The New England Patriots, winners of seven of their first eight games, earn a well-deserved rest (bye week) in Week 9. The Patriots nemesis, the Denver Broncos (6-2) draw our Sunday night tiebreaker against the upstart Oakland Raiders (6-2). Don’t forget to write in your prediction for the total points of the day’s featured game.
Midseason report: Alvord perfect
