WORCESTER – Aaron Clancy (Quincy, Mass.) scored the game-winning goal for a second straight game as Westfield State University Owls defeated Worcester State, 4-3 in a Saturday afternoon Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) outing at the Worcester Ice Center.
Westfield State improves to 5-9-1, 3-6 MASCAC, while league-leading Worcester State drops to 11-5, 6-4 MASCAC.
Clancy, who netted four goals, including the OT game-winner on Thursday night, repeated his late game heroics against Worcester today, tipping in a Carl Greco shot from the point with 5:26 left in the game.
The Owls spotted Worcester State a 2-0 lead in the first 5:32 of the contest, but the Westfield State got even by the end of the first period with goals from Jeremy Young and F.X. Girard.
Carl Greco gave Westfield a 3-2 lead with a wrister with just eight seconds left in the second period.
Worcester State tied the game at 3-3 3:29 into the third period, when Ryan James tallied off of a rebound of a Mitchell Purdie shot, setting the stage for Clancy.
The Owls hung on for the victory, getting 28 saves from sophomore goalie Kameron Limburg.
Worcester State got 28 stops in goal from Josh Reinstein.
Westfield State will be back in action on Thursday, January 25, traveling to Fitchburg State for a conference matchup. – Courtesy of Westfield State University Sports
